Rescue services were called to a row of terrace houses out front of a disinfectant company on the Airport Road in Lampang in northern Thailand after an explosion.

Relatives of an injured woman had already taken her to hospital.

A toilet bowl was in fragments, a door of an adjacent kitchen had been blown off and there was a huge hole in the roof.

Kitchen equipment was scattered all over the place.

It was initially thought that a gas canister in the kitchen had exploded.

But an initial investigation by the local authorities revealed that the source of the explosion was a septic tank.

It is believed gas escaped from the tank and was ignited by a spark.

The incident happened in the Prabat sub-district on the road that leads to the local airport.

Methane gas again. Septic tanks should always be vented. Obviously there was no 0-trap to create a water barrier between the tank and the toilet room.

Sigh.........

This is why mankind hasn't colonized the solar system yet.

Even the simplest lessons go unlearned from one generation to the next.
