Maybe pipat, ai anutin, watch man, and cha cha can put their hands in their pockets and extract a few baht from their billions to help out their fellow Thais. No??? Airbagwill
Expats always over estimate the effect they have on Thailand...... To have any effect on tourism they have to significantly increase there spending and as most are on a fixed income, that amount is unlikely to increase very much. Figures for the numbers of expats....including those working .... range from 150k to 500 k but the latter includes very low income from ASEAN countries . So even if they all went on holiday in Thailand for 2 weeks and took a family that would mean 2 million for two weeks against 40 million over the year. Of course the money they spend on holiday is then lost to local businesses etc whilst they are away.

The fool totally misses the segment of the expat community with the time, money, and resources to tour Thailand. Let's see: Students: Should be studying and not touring. Visa stay is based on enrolment in an educational venue, not the amount of funds they bring into the country monthly. In order the maintain their visa status the individual should be studying, not touring around Thailand.Workers: Should be working and not touring. Visa stay is based on their employment. Funds do not originate from outside Thailand but they are paid in Thai Baht locally. And they aren't going to be touring except on their vacation or holidays. In order the maintain their visa status the individual should be working, not touring around Thailand. Who did he not mention?Retirees: Have all the time in the world to tour. Visa stay based on monthly income or proven reserves in a bank. Brings funds into Thailand from outside the country which directly contribute the Thai economy by injecting foreign funds into the system.Expats married to Thais: For those who are not working - Same as "Retirees." I call these ministers "fools" because they really are blinded by there own short-sightedness and stupidity. 10 1

Each year I dutifully march down to immigration to grovel for another year extension to "visit my wife" to whom I've been married for 13 years. Any other country in the world you'd be granted residency after 10 years of marriage. Here? We're just here "visiting" our family and can be kicked out at any time. And unlike true "guests" ie, tourists, we're not even seen to contribute to the economy. The blind, short-sighted, fools probably see us as nothing but leeches. But how many leeches give you blood as opposed to sucking it out? Racist, blind, short-sighted fools at that. 14 1

brommers
The domestic tourism stimulus package resulted in a 27% drop in domestic Thai tourism! So now we must be milked to fill that hole? There is absolutely no way that I am traveling anywhere until I have been vaccinated, and then my travel will not be in Thailand because "been there done that". So mister Minister go find another way to prop up what the Bank of Thailand refers to as the imploding tourism business.

Took my Girlfriend to the dentist, to clean her teeth. They did a good job, so I asked her to ask them if they could do mine as well? They said they had time, so I received the cleaning. Then proceeded to charge me 1,000 bht more than the receptionist collected from my friend. I asked her to ask them why the difference in rate? I have no cavities and I have my teeth cleaned every six months, normally at the government hospital, where they have dentist as well. The receptionist calls out the dentist, and she tells me Farang teeth not the same as Thai, so have to charge more... 2

It's not only that they're ignoring expats / foreigners. By doing that and trying to get Thais to travel, they're ignoring all of the businesses and destinations that rely mainly on foreign tourists (and expats). Of course there is overlap but a lot of businesses cater specifically to Thai travelers, while others cater specifically to foreigners. The latter are being left out in the cold. Bezdomny
40Thb meal/7/11 Chang beer expats/tourists wont save Thai economy. Demand 3000$ per month funds and Covid insurance for every foreigner entering the country. If they dont spend 3000$ per month, seize their money. wensiensheng
I think this says less about recognising the desirability of expats in Thailand and more about the fact that they have realised true tourists are t going to be coming anytime soon, so expats already here is all they have got. Doesn’t change the rankings on the totem pole at all.
