Tourism minister is correct. I hunkered down in Kamala Beach which is pretty much deserted. Everyone from my landlord to the cell phone shop to the venders are getting happily paid regularly by me. I don't plan to venture off though since my employer has me working remotely till I return home.  I'm not in any hurry to return to America unless immigration tells me it's time to go.

That is only the case if you travel for yourself and stay with family or friends. Again, if a hotel or guesthouse re-registers you this automatically renders the previous TM30 invalid. You are from then on registered at the hotel, which most certainly will not be the same province and address your immigration requires when you want something from them next time. But you can always quote your text ????

Thanks

I have specifically asked about hotels and I am waiting for a reply.

I must admit that I am a bit confused by your post as, even if I stayed at some friends’, they would still have to register me (although the 24 hour rule has been relaxed)

Of course expats can play a part in helping the economy. We bring a fortune into the country. Duh! Let every expat stuck overseas come back tomorrow! No begging an overseas consulate. And give them an award upon arrival. And free five star quarantine. Show us something. Anything.

sp mike for minister of tourism !

I have mentioned a few times, (and been pooh poohed a few times by people who think they know better) that each ex pat who lives here spends on average 500,000 (Half a million) baht every year.

Multiply that by the number of expats living here (150,000 to 200,000 doing a Google check) and you will get a rough idea of how much the expat community contributes to the economy! Even taking the lower figure, it works out at 75,000,000,000 baht!

I cannot even count the number of things I would do differently. Expats would be treated like national heroes, for one. Long term visa fees would be waived entirely. I would lobby for an easy path to permanent residency, for any expat living here over ten years. The list goes on.

or,  what is life without dreams   555    I've been here 25 years,  daughter is a thai citizen, i live on her property,  speak thai , heck ! I even have a gik (ok, that part is not true ......anymore . )               but still just a "visitor" of course.

Seems  so !

I also object  to being forced to learn to play  golf while my wife  goes shopping  unsupervised and unrestricted !

I am in big trouble. I am the one who makes the shopping while my wife is out with her friends

Sure

but I am asking at the source ...

what source might that be ?    ubonjoe is a moderator here with great knowledge of these matters.

what source are you thinking of ?  if you think immig will give you the correct answer then you do not know that all offices do not interpret "laws" the same

They really must make up their minds, in January they want us to report to immigration if we leave our home for a night, now they're  begging us to go to hotels.  Perhaps they should compromise and offer special deals on short-time establishments.

You scratch our back and we will scratch yours. There are a lot of retired expats in Thailand

that have a hard time with hospital bills as insurance for those over 70 is very high

or not available. So I am not saying it should be the same as Thais at 30 baht a day.

You could double or triple it. After living here more than 20 years you can be more human.

Please be advised that if you relocate to another province or another part of your province for a short-time period, you are not required to register a TM30 again.

As others have pointed out nothing is ever what it seems or straightforward in Thailand. My point here is what does "short-time" mean in Thai? An hour usually, but this is really open to interpretation by whoever you are dealing with at the time.

Best wishes, G

Those of us having been here 5 years or longer could be given an easy pathway to permanent residency forgoing all the immigration hoopla we go through 12 monthly

You are funny. I've been married to a Thai for close to 30 years, been living in Thailand for 25, and Thai law still forbids me to live with my wife in Thailand. I can get a visa - over and over and over and over and over again - to visit her, but I'm not allowed to live with her on a permanent basis as people do in the real world. Permanent residency is not a realistic dream for all but a very few.

Ah yes... The good ole expat and foreigner walking wallet. How about offer us people staying here over 3-5 years solid permanent residency for the price of $10,000.

that would be a dream come thru, unfortunately no chance, all this hipe just to attract our attention and maybe some of our money, as soon as the coffers are replenished they will kick our rear end

Did anyone tell Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn about the TM30, or is this another case of speaking without thinking first?

This story was in The Nation on August 5 and posted in Thailand News on the 6 by Webfact:

Again...you are ill informed.

I have just received the réponse to the specific point you are raising

With regard to your inquiry about TM.30, please be informed you that if you stay at a hotel a few days and then return to your permanent residence, you are not required to re-report TM.30 again.”

I hope this clarifies that
