I mean even if it's a 12-15 months visa, can you stay a full year or have to extend via the agent every 90 days (for an additional fee). I have an ed visa. it's good for 90 days, and then I can extend for another 90 days, and then I will probably have to leave in late march, one year from the date I entered thailand.

At the most it would be the 30 day extension with a letter from you embassy unless they allow a longer one of some kind. With a non-b visa about the only extension is for one year based upon working, teaching and etc unless married to a Thai or old enough to apply for a extension based upon retirement.

Immigration are quite specific in their wording - and it more accurately reflects the security of tenure that we enjoy.

I know of one agent that would transfer you from non-b to yearly volunteer visa for 37,000 THB. They claimed the process should take 1-2 weeks since you already have non-immigrant. Unfortunately I let my non-b lapse and reentered Thailand in the beginning of the year on an arrival visa so my process was quite a bit more expensive than that. Edit: Sorry, I was reading the picture but just spotted that you've already pointed out they entered Visa Exempt... It's certainly a lot more than their own government's been doing for them.
