Popular Post webfact
"Phuket Model" still alive - But end of year trial may see maximum of 300 tourists per week A severely scaled down version of the so-called Phuket Model is still on the table for the opening up of Thailand to foreign tourists, a report by Bangkok Biz News suggested. They quoted the governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand Yuthasak Suphasorn as saying that he had been to Phuket to see preparations for the reintroduction of tourists and deemed that the island was indeed ready. But the views of the locals must be taken into consideration and final decisions about the shape the Phuket Model will take will be made when he presents his findings to the CCSA on September 15th, next Tuesday. He said that the plan to start the model by October 1st would not be met but he hoped that a limited version will be in place for the last two months of the year when "tourists traditionally seek the warmth of Thailand to escape the winter". He mentioned a three stage plan that would see only one to three flights landing from abroad in Phuket per week with a cap of 300 tourists for a trial period. The trial was called "Test, Expand, Limit". GeorgeCross
so thats 300 x 12 weeks of high season = 3600 tourists! and it'll probably end up -36000 tourists after domestic tourists have a bout of covid cowardice and head "anywhere but phuket" Edited September 9, 2020 by GeorgeCross

Popular Post JusticeGB
WOW 300 tourists a week that's the equivalent of 15,000 tourists a year! Soon this brilliant man will make up the missing 40,000,000 tourists a year not coming back to Thailand. 1
CLW
The nonsense of mandatory quarantine still not be off the table, I don't expect any tourists will come. Another practical question, how the tourist will come to Phuket? How many seats on a long-haul airplane?

I'm sure that'll appease the business owners and send a message of security to all the hotels.

MRToMRT
I found google translate to be a little clearer on the "plan" than the OP ...... However, foreign exposure will be done in 3 phases: trial, extended and limited exposure. As a result, the number of foreign tourists that will be opened is only 100 people, which is a direct flight from the country of origin to Thailand, no more than 1-3 flights per week, resulting in an initial period of not more than 300 foreigners. teacherclaire
Doesn't that mean that there'll soon be various cheap houses on sale? I feel very sorry for a good friend who'd paid a hell lot of money for a house there and it's now worth almost nothing.
