toast1
Some Win10 Word files with passwords come up in a Windows menu search, some do not. This makes it difficult to find files. Any idea on how to make a passworded Word file come up in a Start menu search? Thank you
Popular Post RichCor
All files and folders should appear, unless they're marked hidden by the "Hidden" flag (this has nothing to do with password protection). To display these files and folders using windows File Explorer, select the VIEW and checkmark HIDDEN FILES Usually it's NOT a good idea to keep this View option selected as it might lead to you accidentally modifying, moving or deleting a hidden file without knowing you're access such and find you've altered something you shouldn't have. Best to let hidden files stay hidden. Password protected files should always show up in a search, unless you've edited or changed what locations gets searched (or indexed). Password protected files are rarely 'hidden', unless they too are system or application files. 2
toast1
Thanks for the info This only happens with some password protected files, all else are OK Not using the latest word, but when i go to preferences for the file, Hidden is not clicked. Any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks

Sorry, I originally interpreted your topic title "Hidden files" being a Pronoun so responded to include it rather than just the subject of your initial post. Apologies. Most likely it's because you're using the Windows Start Menu File Search option, which by default is set to only search for files and folders located either on your DESKTOP or included in your LIBRARIES (in such as Documents, Downloads, Music, Pictures, Videos; or any other folders you've included). Please see this How To Geek web document for a description and options to adjust How to Search All Your PC’s Files in Windows 10’s Start Menu CHRIS HOFFMAN @chrisbhoffman JUNE 18, 2019, 9:00AM EDT
toast1
Thanks for the info, I solved it by deleting the file and creating a new one with a password. Now it works OK. A strange thing for Win10 to do, but it seems OK. Thanks anyway.
