Hua Hin: "AI" capabilities in city's 53 million baht integrated CCTV system

Sanook reported that local officials led by Hua Hin mayor Nopporn Wutthikun accompanied by police chiefs inspected the resort's brand new CCTV system. 

 

It was hailed as a new modern era for the city.

 

Supplied by a firm called Digital First and Service Network it has cost nearly 53 million baht for 463 cameras. Added to 60 already in place the Hua Hinadministration now has more than 500 CCTV cameras all linked to the tessaban HQ.

 

The new cameras are either 5 million or 9 million pixels many housed in domes to prevent water seepage. 

 

They are located at 116 places and provide coverage for areas of Petchkasem Road in both directions and also subsidiary roads and certain accident and crime blackspots. The airport road is also well covered.

 

Some - like those fitted at Wat Hua Hin and on Petchaburi Road - have "AI" capabilities with 360 degree coverage.

 

They are able to zoom in providing improved clarity and provide real time color images day and night helping with quicker response times. 

 

The command center is manned 24 hours. 

 

The cameras will be used to monitor traffic and be the eyes on the ground when crime occurs. 

 

Nopporn said that the cameras were so good that they could identify at 50 meters. The AI capability meant the possibility of people wanted by the police being identified and quickly captured. 

 

It will even be used to catch people littering. 

 

However, amid all the hype of the Sanook story there was not a single reference to any maintenance budget, notes Thaivisa. 

 

That in particular has proved a big problem in places like Pattaya where busted, unrepaired cameras have forced the chiefs there to admit that about half of the CCTV cameras are not even working. 

 

It remains to be seen if Hua Hin can do better long term than Pattaya when the system is completely up and running.

Absolutely. In the article a week ago it failed to mention maintenance too.

The irony is the name of the company responsible for installation - but no maintenance: "Digital First and Service Network"

Pope Pius XII designated Clare as the patron saint of television in 1958 on the basis that when she was too ill to attend Mass, she had reportedly been able to see and hear it on the wall of her room.

Ha ha! Even though she died in 1253. She'd obviously been on the holy wine.

I thought she actually saw it on TV, and the pope did her a favour making her the patron saint.

 

I'd rather stick with Saint John of Logie Baird, at least he saw it as well as inventing it.

Oh I believe you fangless .. patron saint of Eye disorders and Television .. how all encompassing remit is that .. in the course of researching this I've had to visit a number of prayer rooms an' religious sites and already the pop ups have started ranging from do I need glasses to do I need redemption .. 

 

No mention on whether there was a slight satellite time delay when Big G broadcast as that must have been the early days of sat's ..

or if it was in 4k ..

That is a lot of surveillance for such a small town. Cameras everywhere, A.I. (Facial recognition). Thailand seems more like China everyday.  It all seems bit “big brother” to me. I wonder when the “social scoring” will be added.
