webfact
Six students hurt after van driver fails to repair faulty brakes, hits 3 cars By The Nation An Anuban Wat Nang Nai School van with faulty brakes crashed into three cars, leaving six students injured in Ang Thong province yesterday (September 15). Security cameras at a nearby coffee shop recorded the incident before police arrived on the scene and sent the injured students to Wisetchaichan Hospital. Other children in the van were terrified of the accident and the medic team had to call their parents to take them back home. Van driver Samruan Sodsong, 55, said she could not stop the van when on a ramp as the weight of the students made the vehicle pick up speed. The van eventually hit three other cars. Samruan admitted that the vehicle’s brakes weren’t catching properly but she did not get them repaired, resulting in the accident. The police also questioned owners of the cars that were hit to prepare for legal action. Popular Post robblok
Guys (girls in this case) like that should be punished a lot harder. He is transporting kids and he did not fix his breaks and he knew they were faulty. Big punishment and fire her. You dont want someone with an attitude like that on the road, especially with kids. LennyW
I think a lot of these claimed brake failures are due to flip flops being lodged under the pedals, many of them drive barefoot with the shoes just tossed on the floor!

Logically I'm forced to point out that the story never states the total passenger load. Exactly how many kids can be stacked and packed into a van in Thailand? There also was no mention of how many were on top of the van.

Maybole
I do not Know the details of the braking system on this van, but I was always taught to use the gears and engine braking to slow a vehicle and use the hand brake to bring it to a halt. Even switching off the engine while in gear is very effective. Even if the van had an automatic gearbox it would have had a low gear lock position. Not excusing her, but she may have tried to get the school to spend the money to fix the brakes. When the choice is as stark as "drive the van" or "lose your job and we'll let someone else drive the kids", I have a little bit of compassion. You can say the driver's ultimately responsible, but she has to feed her family. And we'll probably never know the whole story, or where the preponderance of the fault lies. That is one old van, BTW.
Stargeezr
So, the driver logic is, I will fix the brakes after the next accident? Stupid woman. Geezer
