The simple answer is there is money to be made by making you quarantine in a hotel if you were allowed to self isolate like a lot of countries allow at home there is very little cost to you. It would be interesting to find out if there are government ministers who have interests in the government stipulated hotels.

This is too easy. How much money is there for home quarantine, and how much money is there in mandated quarantine? Duh.

Because some people don't understand what quarantine means, just one of many examples: https://edition.cnn.com/2020/09/11/us/miami-university-student-party-covid-trnd/index.html What are they sup

Many people in England simply ignore the home quarantine rules when they return from a country on the red list. If it's like that in a (supposedly, lol) well-educated, advanced economy, would you really expect people in Thailand to behave better? I'm quite happy that the Thai authorities take matters very seriously and won't allow unsupervised home quarantine, the UK and EU, never mind the US coronapocalypse, could learn a few lessons from how they do things here.

Not for the government.

Would be interesting to know how many ministers have full or part ownership in the stipulated hotels if not them then maybe family members

Government mindset is that farangs are dirty and they don't really want us to come only our money. The Government Quarantine hotels are very expensive for many people so tourists get fleeced for the first two weeks of their stay. Sadly an army guy broke his quarantine rules so the Thai Government brought in compulsory quarantine.

Covid-19 is not just plague or cholera!

Why such extreme, even irrational fear?

According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) in Berlin, an estimated 25,100 people will have died of the 'normal' flu in 2017/2018 in Germany alone.

Ah, now that's the real question that needs to be answered.

Who benefits from the hysterical paranoia that's been whipped up by governements and the media, not just in Thailand but around the world?

"Why no home quarantine in TH?"

Covid-19 deaths in Germany, 9,452.

Covid-19 deaths in Thailand, 58.

What do you mean by "Covid-19 deaths"? Died with Covid or died of Covid?

And it's actually 59 in Thailand. Not 58.

perfectly rational and if you want to live under german rules.. stay home. or wait until they put you in charge of making the rules...

i never understand why people want another country to adapt the laws for them.

do they change the laws for your convenience in germany?

Why is quarantine not allowed at your private residences?

Two reasons

1) and this is only a guess you staying at a hotel shares the wealth around to others

2) and this is the most likely one The Government set the rules and this is what they want

Please somebody, push this question further to the government. It´s just too hard to answer for us simple TV members.

Soldiers are as simple as anyone except when they have the authority to extort money from the ordinary people, hence very overcharged hotel fees for ASQ, coved insurance and testing, what a moneymaker, so no home quarantines.

Phuket authorities on the hunt for quarantine dodgers

Provincial chief of police, Rungrote Thakurapunyasiri, says the group that had been asked to self-quarantine lied about their whereabouts and continued to leave their homes. The chief has slammed the lack of honesty, accusing the group of potentially spreading the virus further through their actions.

“Even though they were advised to self-isolate at home for 14 days, their lack of honesty could worsen the situation. They could have easily spread the virus to unsuspecting people. The total lack of honesty also needs to be addressed as quickly as possible.

Because very few people would self quarantine.

There are ways to make sure they do, one being clamp a very brightly coloured bracelet on their wrist that cannot be removed without damage, to be checked when the quarantine finishes, if there is any damage to it, heavy fines, jailtime then deportation.

See how many people would break the quarantine then.

At these prices, the "government". with a much smaller amount going to the hotel.

Why would anyone want more COVID carriers coming into the country? You see every day, six, seven, eight, nine, 10 of the quarantines develop Covid. If they were "on their honour" not to go out of their own house, you would find most of them at Tesco or Siam Paragon. Better to lock them up.
