Police chief urges forces to help tackle exigencies brought by tropical storm

National Police chief Pol General Chakthip Chaijinda has urged police officers nationwide to prepare to deal with heavy rain and flash floods due to tropical storm Noul, Pol Colonel Krisana Pattanajaroen, deputy spokesman of the Royal Thai Police, said on Friday.

LONDON (Reuters) - Britain's health minister said on Friday that the novel coronavirus was accelerating across the country, with hospital admissions doubling every eight days, but refused to say if another national lockdown would be imposed next month.

JAKARTA (Reuters) - Indonesia's capital plans to double its COVID-19 testing capacity in the near future, its governor told Reuters on Thursday, as it fights surging infections that saw restrictions re-imposed to slow the spread and help hospitals to cope.

MANILA (Reuters) - The Philippines' health ministry on Friday reported 3,257 additional novel coronavirus infections, marking the 11th straight day the country has recorded more than 3,000 daily cases.

HANOI (Reuters) - Tropical storm Noul made landfall in Vietnam on Friday, killing at least one person and triggering heavy rain in the central parts of the country, though authorities later downgraded the weather system.
