I'd head straight to the condo after the fun filled 14 quarantine, then some domestic excursions to the beach. But I guess the Non O folks abroad aren't going anywhere, good thing the 800k plus is there and unable to assist in the slow tourism recovery process !

This option to enter Thailand on this tourism visa for the potential of a longer-term stay would have appealed to someone like myself, actually. But I would have been entering to do research first and some tourism second.

 

Originally, I was trying to enter on an ED visa. After going through all the procedures to enter, I was refused because the ED visa now only is for students and not for researchers in education as it was before. I could not have known this change, however, as the online requirements were exactly the same as when I had received this same visa before the COVID situation. Wasted time even applying.

 

Lesson learned: the penalties for my canceled Thai Airways flight (plus having to wait one year for the refund), fees for canceling the health insurance, misery dealing with Thai bureaucracy, and uncertainty of even being allowed in on this new program just became a huge turn off. As much as I would love to enter Thailand now, the hassle of it all is just not worth it. Honestly, the juice isn’t worth the squeeze… .

An applicant for this STV Visa must swear they have self-isolated for 14 days at home before the flight. That just finished me off. It has to fail. But what is the future from here when a vaccine is not in sight yet.

One of my friends got back to town last week. Works offshore and eventually his company got him on a repatriation flight from UK to here. Quarantine hotel cost was 50,000 baht per week charge.

Although I'm not necessarily advocating this plan for restarting tourism, at least I understand the intent, and accept opening borders has to start somewhere.

Not being totally blinkered, I know there are many thousands of tourists who don't come here for the hedonistic lifestyle of a few weeks partying in the fleshpots. Many people have been coming here for years to escape winters in their home country and enjoy the Thailand experience for up to 6 months of the year. A near neighbor has been entertaining long stay guests in his establishment for as long as I have lived nearby. These people party among themselves, eat out for every meal and undertake short term travel around neighboring Provinces. I'm sure they spend more money here every year than any short term entrant.

They are the people this visa is aimed at, and it could also give the forgotten quasi- residents, languishing in home country, a way to reunite with family and perhaps eventually stay.

Only a complete fool believing in hoax theories, would think that throwing the borders wide open is the way to start up the economy again. It would have the opposite effect very quickly.

plus the testing which cost another bht 10k...and if they did not get enough money, they can force you another week quarantine  .In US dollars, you are looking $10k to get out of quarantine and that is not having a honey next to you.

MyThai friend who was quarantine last month in Bangkok spend Bht100k before she went to Chiang MAi wher she lived.

Funny how Thailand had a two year crackdown on over due visa's and ramped up the bad falang bologna before the lockdowns = saved trapping so many ... this lockdown in Thailand will only make the rich richer buying up hotels and businesses on the cheap ... seems corona was designed for such and more ... Thailand has survived 2563 + year's and will survive these times ... 14 day quarantine is nonstarter ...

Why u need quarantine if u get tested before u board, or wear mask on flight? Logic.
