REUTERS/Tom Brenner (Reuters) - President Donald Trump headed for an evening campaign rally in the battleground state of Pennsylvania on Tuesday, as Democratic rival Joe Biden stayed off the trail to attend two virtual fundraisers with only weeks before the Nov. 3 election. The contenders have clashed over Trump's intention to fill the U.S. Supreme Court vacancy left behind by liberal Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who died from cancer on Friday. Trump said he would reveal his pick on Saturday in the hopes of scheduling a Senate confirmation vote ahead of the election, despite fierce criticism from Biden and congressional Democrats. The prospect of a brutal political struggle to replace Ginsburg as Republicans look to cement a 6-3 conservative majority on the court injected a new air of uncertainty into a White House campaign that Biden has led steadily in opinion polls. During an online fundraiser on Tuesday, Biden confirmed that Cindy McCain, the widow of Republican U.S. Senator John McCain, would formally endorse him because of Trump's reported comments that U.S. soldiers who died in combat were "losers" and "suckers." Trump has denied making the comments. He and John McCain, a longtime friend of Biden's despite their ideological differences, clashed repeatedly, with Trump disparaging McCain's military service and years spent as a prisoner of war. McCain died in 2018. Cindy McCain was among several Republican public figures who appeared on Biden's behalf during the Democratic National Convention last month. Biden has built a major financial advantage for the campaign's final stretch after a big fundraising haul in August. The campaign and its party allies will report having $466 million in cash at the end of August, while Trump's war chest stood at $325 million, according to officials from both sides. Biden will return to the campaign trail on Wednesday with his first trip as the Democratic nominee to North Carolina, another key state. A Reuters/Ipsos poll released on Tuesday showed Trump and Biden even in the state. Voters in about a half-dozen states have already begun casting early in-person ballots, and election experts expect a surge of early and mail-in voting this year as people try to reduce their risk of exposure to the coronavirus. The pandemic has helped fuel a slew of lawsuits across dozens of states over efforts to ease voting restrictions in light of the pandemic. On Tuesday, North Carolina election officials agreed to count absentee ballots received up to nine days after Election Day, as long as they were postmarked by Nov. 3. Courts in several other key states, including Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, have also extended absentee ballot deadlines despite Republican opposition. Popular Post Credo
The McCain family has been pretty clear that they were not voting for Trump. Megan McCain has been particularly vocal on that issue. It's one thing to not support a candidate and another to support another candidate. Her endorsement is helpful to Biden, but I doubt it will be a game changer for him.

What 'many others' would these be? As far as I'm aware, there were comments from Team Trump and his supporters about 10, or 7 or 5 named people. In effect, at least on these forums, no such list of names was aired. The only one consistently referenced was Bolton, and even he could only say he did not hear Trump say such things (while confirming the President's habit of denigrating pretty much anyone). Trump supporters have no issues when the President airs claims based on someone-told-me, I've-heard, or many-people-say. That's good enough when coming from the idol. But usage of anonymous sources, in line with common practice and guidelines, that's somehow unacceptable. You too seem to ignore Trump's words regarding McCain and POWs. 2
Popular Post Poet
As ever, extreme partisans show their inability to process simple reality. There is no need for "evidence". Anyone, of any political persuasion, who knows Cindy McCain, the history between her father and Trump, or any of her many, many public pronouncements about Trump over the past 4 years, understands that she made her mind up on this a long time ago. Tying it to a recent smear is known in the craft as "maximizing the message". In this fight, every missile is important and a team of political hacks will have optimized every aspect of this "news". Republicans would do the same. Most Americans understand this process. They accept that it is part of how the game is played. Only an absolute moron, however, would consider it a good idea to insist that "No, she definitely only decided on this the other day!". People reveal what they are. There are plenty of sincere and intelligent people on this forum. Some others, well, look, if you met such people in a bar or at a friend's party, you would probably politely listen to their dishonest ravings for a few minutes but, thereafter, you would tactfully avoid them. You are not obliged to talk to anyone and, sadly, some people here are well beneath my consideration. 4 1
Popular Post bendejo
DT smears himself, but it doesn't matter as the herd mentality (his term) of his fans will not be swayed. This is not politics, it's cult following. Whatever he says tomorrow, regardless of anything, and they will support him. He knows it, and it's taken his huge ego and amplified it to stratospheric. When he calls you guys filthy and disgusting doesn't it give you pause? Yes, there are still a few Republicans who put country before party. We can thank Trump for exposing the true Americans. 5

Stargeezr
I can see that the Trump supporters, no matter where they live seem to have an undying love for this pinnochio leader. The guy with few or no morals, no friends, especially in parts of Asia. It really is too bad that there is not a 3rd independant party to try form the next government in the USA. A party with a younger leader, that was in the middle, sort of stuck between the 2 present choices. I could not vote for a guy who lies, and has cheated so much in his life, as Trump has and still does. I am thankful that I do not live in the USA, or have their health care plan. Not too fond of hurricanes or tornadoes either. I also hope the Americans stay in America until they have less than 500 new cases of the virus prr day.
