Woman empties gun into alcoholic, abusive husband

A woman in Trang kept shooting her abusive, alcoholic husband until she ran out of bullets before surrendering to police on Wednesday (September 23).

 

The body of Jaruek Burapha, 43, was found outside their house with five gunshot wounds in the back and one in the abdomen.

 

Police showed up to find Julalak Longlalerng, 33, with the murder weapon and her 11-month-old baby in her arms.

 

Initial investigation showed that Jaruek was an alcoholic and frequently fought with his wife. On Wednesday, he was more aggressive than usual and smashed the door and glass windows.

 

Julalak said she hid her baby before training the gun at Jaruek and shooting him six times, until he ran out of the house. She said her father had given her the gun for self-protection.

 

Police initially charged Julalak with murder, but decided to interrogate her further so the correct legal action can be taken.

This is a tough one, because by the letter of the law it's murder. But common sense (which aint that common nowadays) would see her let off Scott free. The trouble is, where do you draw the line after that? You know, if your dad's rich and you're rushing home from a middle-of-the-night dental appointment in Thong Lor or something.

If they can prove the abuse and that he forced himself in the house then there are mitigating circumstances. Alcoholics that are violent can be quite dangerous.

 

What counts against her are the shots in the back, but in the heat of the moment and shock things happen.

That is if they can prove him being drunk and violent at the time. Would not hurt if there was a history of abuse too.

Six slugs but managed to run out of the house. Or maybe she missed 6 times, he ran out of the house and tripped over giving her time to put in another clip and try again.

The question in this case is was the guy violent and drunk at the time trying to get into the house. If that can be proven its at least partially self defense. IMHO they should shoot all abusive violent drunks (same goes for violent high people)

Both you and I know very little of this family's history of violence..   Maybe she could have left a hundred times over the years........but didn't.

 

On this occasion, with the drunken hubby smashing up the house and possibly his misses....... with a vulnerable baby adding to the tension, the cops weren't on scene to watch her pack and drive her to the station.

 

Easy to sit back in our comfortable safe surroundings and be judge, jury and executioner.   Hoping justice prevails wotever the circumstances.

Many posters on this forum are quick to judge men as bad, and women as good.

But in reality, if you don't judge everyone using the law, then one side will do anything they like on the realisation they won't be punished.

Good for her. Dont mess with a mummy bear and her cub! It states he was violent,  it states he was an alcoholic, it states she was given a hand gun for protection from her father who was obviously very worried about her safety and it also states the house was smashed up. I hope this one evaporates and the woman and her baby are fine.

And from an old street cop who attended and settled far more family domestics than he deserved to, I know very well that there are usually three sides to every story.   There's his side, there's her side, and there's the truth.

The big question is: What did she do on that day and in the past before she shot him?

Did she ever involve the police when he was violent before?

Did shy try to leave him?

Shooting someone might be self defense depending on the circumstances. It's up to her to show what happened and that what she did was necessary to save her or the baby's lives.

Reduce the charge to manslaughter for acting in self defense, then reduce it by 50% for pleading guilty and not fleeing the scene, then what's remaining is a suspended sentence.

at the most it sounds like manslaughter, she should get a suspended sentence.  Domestic abuse is a evil everywhere and needs to be approached as a mental and mind control problem (on both sides) than as just an everyday crime.   Desperate people do desperate things in defense of themselves and their kids. At least she wont have to put up with that sick abusive moron any more.

Yes, and then he is free to do that to somebody else, you have to GROW UP bro, and face the fact that these dirtbags need to die, and I sincerely hope she gets no charges, and can look after her children, and not grow up to be these types of fu___ing monsters, which are unwelcome in this world.
