Thailand's immigration chief Lt-Gen Sompong Chingduang announced details of the latest arrests and activities of the Immigration Bureau in keeping the country's borders safe from Covid-19 incursions of foreign migrants.

In the first case a man called Adul was stopped driving an adapted minivan in the Khok Soong area of Sa Kaeo province. There were 23 illegal Cambonian migrants in the van who he was taking to Chonburi, Nakhon Pathom, Chacheongsao and Bangkok.

Adul said that "Ek" gave him 1500 baht per person and a further 100 baht per person on successful delivery.

None of the Cambodians had passports and they had all entered Thailand through a natural border on foot.

They had paid an agent 5,000 baht each.

In case number 2 Thai nationals Mana and Pornmalee were arrested. They had 11 Cambodians in a van that was stopped at the Nong Singh checkpoint in Aranyaprathet, Sa Kaeo.

They said "Toon" gave them 5,000 baht for a van load of workers and they were taking them to Future Park Rangsit where they would then be taken to work in Bangkok and surrounding areas.

The Cambodians said they had paid 3,500 to 4,000 baht each for the trip.

Finally immigration did a sweep of Chatuchak weekend market in the north of Bangkok and found 76 migrants working there.

Waay too much Money to be made from the Illegals, so it wont happen.

If an infection shows up in Thailand, investigated to find possible contacts and it includes nationals, then traced back to an illegal immigrant who is employed then I think things will change. The employer must be held accountable.

A rather curious piece of reporting.  Headline says no illegals found at Chatuchak.

Then at the end of the article, we are informed that 76 migrants were working there. Were they illegal or legal?  That fact was omitted.

'nuf sed.
