An optician cannot eXamine for or treat eye diseases. Even in the west.

In Thailand they are often not even real opticians.

Plus 1 on  Sheryl pointing out that these places are not even real Opticians.

Also be very wary of some of the small private Eye Clinics

Go to a Hospital, and if you cannot afford a high end one try the Sirikit Hospital in Sattahip

I accept your statement regarding opticians in Thailand. However when I return on a yearly basis to the UK, I visit a fully qualified optician working with one of the larger retailers. Whilst I would agree an optometrist would as defined be a more specialist and experienced  than an optician, the latter are fully qualified and the examination I have lasts for just under 1 hour and involves tests using  a tonometer , a retinoscope,  a Volk lens and a slit lamp as well as a personal inspection using a bright light.

I see this check up as more comprehensive than a 10 minute visit to my GP who may be required to identify my symptoms from hundreds of ailments.

I am not and have never been affiliated to the business, but I strongly disagree that they 'cannot eXamine (sic) for eye diseases'.
