Regular haunts that survived

As per the title, would love to hear which bars and restaurants have survived best during Covid in Pattaya.

I am happy to contribute, but can you clarify "have survived best during Covid?" 

 

The damage from Covid is no where near finished.

I saw on a YouTube vid recently that my old local, BJ3 Beer Bar on the Soi Diamond island @ Walking, is still going. Tip and her family owned it for >35 years she told me. For those whose minds are in the gutter it was named after her brother in law Bill Jones, same as SoiBJ. Great place for warm beer and cold women.

The main popular Western pub/restaurant/sports bars in Jomtien are all still going, Hemingways, Frasers and Deano's. I put that down to more expat residents in the area than Central Pattaya and also fewer venues in the first place. Had to get additional chairs laid out at Deano's last Saturday for the football as it was full at 6pm.

Jomtien has definitely faired better than Pattaya but apart from the bars you mentioned and a few others....the rest will eventually close if things don't change...take a look down Soi 7 any night..you won't count more than 20 customers, considering there is as many bars it's obvious it can't go on. A few of the bigger places in LK that guys have had for a number of years will have to give...running costs of over 150k a month with little to no customers everyday....or beers at 44 baht, how long will they watch their savings dwindle.

Only ever ventured to Jomtien to get my visa extension, but always made a day of it. Felt so much different to Pattaya, loved it ????

 

Good to see not much has changed.

Great, I lived off them last November as they offered 99 baht Whoppers. The only thing that stopped me eating two 60 baht chicken kebabs when drunk ????

Indian Rasoi near Nova Platinum South Pattaya is still open... for now. Been going every week since Sonny (he became a friend) opened it 9 yrs (?) ago. Seems to be only one left when used to be 5-6 in area.

It gladdened my heart immensely when he reopened. Not having an easy time regardless

Do go see him if you've a hankering for yummy Indian food

The heading should have be something like, "Are your regular haunts surviving?"  

 

The full economic fallout from Covid hasn't been felt yet.

If I was there I'd go in and have a drink, but I must admit the 13/4 "Boystown" sign always stopped me going down that soi ????

The Black Sheep Bar on the darkside is still going strong after 14 years.

Sounds like Jomtien and the dark side are relatively unscathed. I remember going on a dark side tour back in 2008 (Adam from cherry bar ran it), was fantastic. For some reason I remember black pearl, or something like that. I went swimming with my phone to be with naked girls ????

Well, I support my favorite bars and restaurants (the ones still open) more so now then before, and I encourage everyone to do the same.  They give us choice and variety here, which is one of the great things about Pattaya for expats.  

 

Should just about all of them fold, as expats, we all lose, so support your local.

Many with cash reserves will be running low by December & any business revival now not tipped until at least April 2021

Simon's fish and chips in Jomtien closed down. The owner could not return from NZ due to ill health. Great pity, as I loved the fish and fenerks there.

Also in Jomtien, Pig and Whistle closed after start of covid. Again a great pity. Da Nicola in Jomtien reopened after a covid closure recently. Great spaghetti meat balls.

 The first two are really struggling. Beach Road and Second Road both hit hard with very few customers about. I Rovers seems OK but like the last two, not on my list.

Had breakfast at Irish Rovers yesterday, the usual great value breakfast.

There were quite a few customers, maybe half the tables occupied on a Friday morning about 11am so they seem to be doing OK.

 

Talk about optimism?  The new Owners of WITHERSPOON'S on Soi Buakhow have not only opened a small Mexican restaurant opposite Witherspoon's but have also opened "WITHERSPOON'S on Beach Road" at the corner of Beach Rd and Central Pattaya Rd.  It's a very nice, two story restaurant with a beautiful deck overlooking the beach.
