Rubber farmers impacted by storm 'Noul' to be compensated for losses

The Rubber Authority of Thailand would pay Bt3,000 per rai (0.16 hectare) to farmers whose rubber plantations were damaged by tropical storm "Noul", the Authority's deputy director-general of business and operation, Sukatas Tangwiriyakul, said.

 

“Tropical storm Noul last week had caused heavy rains, flash floods and water run-offs in several provinces, causing damage to rubber plantations in many areas,” he said.

 

“The Authority has approved the compensation package for affected rubber farmers under the regulation on aid to farmers in case of natural disasters and fire. To be eligible, the farmers must have at least 20 rubber trees per rai being damaged by the impact of the tropical storm. The maximum payment is capped at Bt3,000 per rai.”

 

“Other conditions include: Applicants must have previously registered as rubber farmers under the Authority, and must legally own the plantation affected by the storm,” he added.

 

“Farmers must contact the Authority to receive compensation within 15 days after their plantation was damaged, or after the natural disaster ended, depending on the situation. After that, the Authority will send officials to the plantation to evaluate the damage and disburse compensation as soon as possible.”
