After a meeting with the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration on Monday, Tourism and Sports Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn said a limited number of foreign tourists will be allowed to come to the country under the new special tourist visa rules.

The Interior Ministry will draw up a draft regulation on this special visa before it is sent to the Council of State for examination and then officially approved by the prime minister.

“The entire process should be completed in line with the intention of opening the country to the first group of foreign tourists in October,” Phiphat said.

The government has been looking into the option of offering foreign travellers a special month-long tourist visa, which can be extended twice for 30 days each time.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has instructed all related agencies to ensure every arrival undergoes a 14-day quarantine, and if the global situation improves then the seven days and six-hour quarantine criteria can be applied.

Separately, a group of 150 tourists from China’s city of Guangzhou will land in Phuket on October 8, before another group of 126 flies to Bangkok on October 25.

On November 1, 120 tourists from Scandinavia and other European countries will arrive in Bangkok on a Thai Airways flight.

Phiphat said all these tourists will spend their first 14 days in Thailand at alternative state quarantine sites in Chonburi, Buri Ram and Phuket. So far, five hotels have been approved as alternative state quarantine sites, of which one each is in Chonburi and Buri Ram, while the rest are in Phuket.

Finally you see the light at the end of the tunnel, and can admit that the guy who supports this idea is a dreamer.

Here is another one of his brilliant ideas

Why not 7 days and six hours and 23 minutes. Now that would be an idea

Steven, apparently they already have the flights filled and arrivals are set up.  They will come, will they be happy, well that is the 64$ question.

The first tourist who cops a false positive Covid test, then gets escorted to a "special" hospital will not be very happy.

Especially if he/she has zero symptoms.

Then they will more than likely be the Chinese contingent that your hero has invited to be the first back into Phuket, and then Bangkok.

There is no way the Chinese will quarantine for 14 days, and the worst thing is we will not know who has and who has not been in quarantine as they are coached around everywhere they go, however once at their destination will be able to mix with others freely. IMO The 14 day isolation should not be violated by any tourists for the moment as it is a substantial safeguard .......!!!

Oh thank goodness!

Because one of the many things tourists really want on a vacation besides the 14 day hostage holding at

4k baht+ a night overpriced hotels that regularly rent for less than 1000 baht a night is regulations!

Lots of regulations!! ????

How could any one be booked as there has not been time to be vetted by local consular and can not book flight until consular approved?

These will be " special Invitation gests " for sure

No need for all the vetting procedures Etc, and they will have been waiting like Greyhounds at the Traps to come here for " Business " reasons.
