Thai man takes matters into his own hands after police foot dragging, makes arrest himself

If this story is true about police ineptness, it is another example of the corruption of a body of individuals not fit to be called police.

When I received a complaint, it was my duty to investigate and to arrest the suspect if my investigation warranted it. The police are to investigate, collect evidence, take statements, prepare a report and submit it to the prosecutors office to determine if a trial is appropriate.

Research about the Thai police reveals that supposedly it follows similar methodology, but apparrently it is broken, has been for decades, and with no reform in sight.

There's a case to be made that it's a reasonable way to fund a police department.

These guys pay for their positions.  They pay for each promotion.  They pay for their uniforms.  They pay for their guns.  And they make a ridiculously small salary.  I'm not even sure they have a budget to do proper investigations.

The good news is that very little public money goes to the police department.  That keeps taxes low for everyone.

The bad news is that, if you need their services, you have to pay out of pocket.  But that's incentive to protect your own stuff so you don't put a burden on society by needing the police all the time.  The further bad news is the shakedowns, but that's another thread, or rather dozens of other threads.

I'm not saying I like it that way.  But it is understandable.  If I want a fully functional police department, I need to stay someplace where there's lots of taxes to pay for it.  Or I need to be willing to pay some money when I do need their services.

I think that the police in that area are too busy checking TripAdvisor and arresting people for reviews. ????

Far too busy to act on a petty crime allegedly proven by dodgy CCTV. And everyone knows that CCTV doesn't work here in Thailand, proven at that private party in BKK that people accused of being a police-run casino!

How very dare they!

They are oxygen theives

Thongbai went to the Chonburi cops who said bring us more evidence.

He got that in the form of CCTV but still the police wouldn't act without a warrant.

He should have just paid them 10K which is the going rate to get them out of their offices.  My Thai family made a citizen's arrest on  a miscreant who hired then sold my S-i-L's vehicle.  I drove them to two police stations in an attempt to get them to act.  Guy at Dongtan asked 10K to move on it - I was in the room & wife translated for me.  No action was taken & the car owner had to continue to pay the bank loan for four more years!  The thief had done it twice before tho' the cars were recovered.

RTP are a National Disgrace.  How did they earn the R in their name?

So they assaulted, detained, then kidnapped a member of the public, then forcefully transported them half way across the country.

Yes, quite legally as he was known to have committed an offence, then they handed him over to the police.  It's called a citizen's arrest and if the arrestee doesn't like it he can sue the person who arrested him.

Cops here are not cops. Some years back during Songkran someone punched my 12 year old in the head and stole his mums bike as he was getting something from under the seat. With my lads face swollen badly, so assault plus theft, the cops wanted 10,000 to even begin to look for the guy. One of the few times I have ever lost the plot and told them to their faces what I thought of them.

Fair play to this guy for dealing with it himself.

If I had caught the guy who battered my kid, I don't think there would have been much left to hand over to the cops mind.

be aware....that lot always rely on weapons.....preferably guns!
