Pope denies audience with Pompeo; Vatican warns against playing politics over China

Outstanding. The more humiliation and scorn heaped upon this disastrous administration, the better. Good on the Pope, for a wise decision.

Pompeo is beyond pompous. He is a horrible SOS. And fortunately, only a few months to go, and none of us have to see his face ever again. Obscurity is in his future. Same for his hapless boss.

So no problem for the Pope to meet Chinese politicians at any time, then!

Well, for one thing, the election year thing is not an issue for them.

Other than that your 'any time' bit is nonsense.

Good for you you Pope Francis the correct call not to get used by trump and his mess

The Pope, complete Hypocrite. Preaches human rights and an avid supporter of the world's biggest human rights abuser. I remember a country in Europe that appointed their Catholic Bishops and cleargy too in the 1930/40's. The Catholic Church had no issues with that one either.

Well I guess when Trump is asked why did Pompeo want an audience with the Pope he will come up with his stock standard answer. "The Pope never heard of him don't even know him .Who is he never met or heard of him."

Which probably would be true.

I think that the Trump administration has a fair point about the Church's acquiescence to China. The problem is that Pompeo has abandoned the traditional neutrality in elections of a Secretary of State and has been campaigning hard for President Trump.

What is your view based on? Is the Vatican obligated to follow USA foreign policy? Are the interests of the USA and the Vatican similar in this regard? The Vatican does not command armies, and usually goes about things in a more diplomatic way.
