webfact
Chiang Mai: 200 hotel employees left unpaid for 6 months appeal to governor Picture: Sanook Sanook reported that more than 200 employees of a well-known hotel in the northern Thai city of Chiang Mai were planning to appeal to the governor after they were left high and dry. They have not been paid for 6 months. In his capacity as registrar for hotels they want the governor to declare the hotel officially closed so they can receive welfare payments. At the moment they are in limbo after the hotel management twice announced it would reopen. The latest date for that was today but when staff went to the hotel they found it in a run-down condition with no electricity. Computers and the transformer had been removed. The staff who complained to the media said that the company running the hotel was involved in a takeover dispute. No names were mentioned in the story that came to Sanook via INN. JusticeGB
The hotel management have probably done a runner to avoid paying redundancy and unpaid wages. This is no different from theft they should be arrested for what they have done.

Lacessit
The hotel was going to re-open to what? There's no tourists, sunshine. IMO management used it as a delaying tactic to strip out stuff of value, while dudding the staff. Grubs. I assume the name of the hotel can't be made public due to defamation laws. JeffersLos
Let's hope the hotel is sold, and the first thing to be paid are the staff's wages for the last 6 months. Though how much does a hotel go for nowadays, 20 Yuan?
Popular Post ChaiyaTH
First they ruined the city overbuilding with hotels etc and now they are empty bankrupted businesses too. Great work... Should never have allowed so many hotels in the first place, a town like CM runs best on many smaller guesthouses and resorts. DLock
I doubt this hotel is alone in not being able to pay staff. Many businesses were caught flat footed and have had no customers since April. If they had no bank, then how can they be expected to pay staff...for doing nothing. Sounds like they management should have had a better solution so staff could have gotten some Government benefits.
