Non O Marriage Ext. Bank Letter

Be careful. In certain circumstances, updating your bankbook using ATM machines won't reprint a balance with latest date if you have not done any transactions since your last update. In other words, if (like me) you put money aside in a separate account just for IO purposes and don't use it for anything else then this will happen and IO will not accept your bankbook as proof even though you have a letter from the bank.  Daft or what?

What you have to do is have slightly more than the required amount in the account and a few days before going to IO withdraw a small amount, say 50THB and then when you update your bankbook before the IO visit it will show this transaction and a current balance date which they will then accept. You can always put the money back into the account again later to preserve your surplus for this purpose in future.

I speak from experience on this one as I was tripped up by this technicality as I was unlucky enough to get a 'jobsworth' officer who made us do this extra chore and waste another day running around to get it done before traipsing back to the IO.

I just applied for supporting Thai wife extension of stay at Chiang Wattana.  Had a letter from my own bank branch that was 4 days old.  Had to go downstairs and get a letter dated on day I apply.  New policy from last year.  Different Imm. Office?  Your mileage may vary.  Good luck.

Khonkaen generally expect it dated same day as application, done it for 10 plus yrs

That's normal. Couple of years ago I had problem at Sri Ratcha and had to go to the MFA, told to be back within 24 hours or I would need new bank letter.

I will be applying for my 1 year extension soon, what exactly is the "bank letter" and what should it contain?

Just go to any branch of the bank where you have deposited the prescribed amount with and explain what you are doing and that you want a letter for immigration and they will know what is required as they've all done it lots of times before.  Unless you read Thai what it contains will mean nothing to you.

so it appears we need it the same day.,...  so a visit to the bank in the morning and immigration in the afternoon.

I can't believe this same day stuff, what if your appointment is at 8.30  that would make it a bit hard.

The info page they give you says 7days or less.Did mine in CM last Wed.Bank letter and statement 6days old,not a problem. And don't fall for 7days to apply for 12month statement. On the spot statement,6months,meets the money in bank 2mths prior to application. .

Bank book machines outside many bigger banks can update your book at any time in the morning.

Bank letter is supposed to be within 7 days of application.

Correct. I had a dedicated account and deposited some money just to get the acceptable balance. Those Imm guys are out to make life difficult IMO.

They also made me get a bank book update day of extension, not day before, as if that made any difference. Pity we have to put up with the <deleted> so we can spend money in LOS.
