Pattaya: Monorail favored over trams as plans set to go to cabinet - only 45 baht end to end

At 70 years of age and walking long distances with the aid of a walking stick, be damned if I'm going to walk up 3+ flights of stairs when it would be so simple to walk onto a tram. Bit of a difference between photo1 and photo 2

Bangkok still have MC taxis, normal taxis mini buses and other forms of transportation in addition to the MRT/BTS, same will happen in Pattaya and the monorail will be largely unused except maybe for transport from the Bangkok - Pattaya train station to Pattaya city.

I guess most travelers on the high speed train from Bangkok will be travelers from flights to Don Muang/Suvarnabhumi with luggage. These travelers will not want to bother with a monorail so will use a baht bus or taxi. I'm sure the high speed train station/monorail station will look much like the bus stations at north Pattaya road and Jomtien with a number of waiting taxis and baht buses.

Does Bangkok have baht buses for 10 baht a journey on a set route?

One price would be preferable---like they have had in New York, and other places, Such a mess in places like London in comparison.

Just 45 baht -get on -off when you want. You wont need half the staff you have now.

Bangkok is bigger with a lot more people traveling around. Therefore they have bigger buses traveling on set routes, for less than 10Baht.

 

These buses always seem to be packed even if they are slower and less comfortable than MRT.BTS for the only reason that they are less expensive and sometimes run more convenient routes not covered by MRT/BTS.

Speed is needed? Why?

For Bangkok, wich is a business city, does make sense

but Pattaya is a holiday resort, do you think the tourists want speed?

You have missed the point, they are here to enjoy their stay, without 

the stress and the speed they have to endure the rest of the time

Remember The Simpsons where a con man gets the city to build a monorail that Homer drives and the whole thing is a disaster? Could reality be mimicking a tv show?

Wrong. There are baht buses in Bangkok running fixed routes for around 10 Baht, same as in Pattaya. Most operate in the outskirts of Bangkok or in areas where there are no big buses. Some operate from BTS stations. Big buses or mini buses are more common but you can still find baht buses in some areas.

The airport train was without though. Fancy that- people going to the airport have bags- how bizarre!

Besides a escalator, elevators will be installed to handle the wheelchairs and other people that need that sort of conveyance.

If this monorail gets built, I hope some baht buses are still allowed to operate, and not outlawed, thus pushing everyone onto the monorail in order to pay for it.

It will be Pattaya Nua no doubt.
The Purple Line will go from the intersection of Pattaya Tai/#2 Road (where the Muang 8 school is) to "Nong Prue" which could be anywhere on the Darkside.
The Red line will run from Jomtien #2 road to Pattaya #2 road and down to the Dolphin Roundabout at the bottom of Pattaya Nua.

Which would mean the Green line probably runs from the Roundabout up North Pattaya Road and over to the not yet built High Speed Train station.

Once it's done (if ever) it might make things a lot easier for a lot of locals.

Getting to Immigration for example, or to some of the big stores/malls downtown like T-21. There may be stops near places like Friendship/Tukcom, Central Festival and Foodland for example.
And of course, the big one right near Jomtien Soi 5, which may prove to be the most popular stop of them all.
