Popular Post geovalin
Sihanoukville is set to lose yet another casino as Century Entertainment International Holdings, formerly known as Amax International Holdings Limited, will relocate its gaming floor from Sihanoukville to the up and coming tourist spot of Dara Sakor in Koh Kong province. Sihanoukville, a once backpacker-friendly coastal city transformed at a rapid rate when Prime Minister Hun Sen was eager to push forward with the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), a geopolitical trade route that would make use of Cambodia’s only deep-water port. Chinese investors flocked to the coastal city to build hotels and casinos aimed at accommodating Chinese customers. Many of those who arrived in the city were either construction workers or tourists who are not allowed to gamble back in their home country. Then Cambodia’s government announced a ban on online gambling which was enforced as of January 1, this year. As a direct result of the ban, thousands of Chinese who came to Cambodia and made their money in gambling left. Around 30 casinos in Sihanoukville have closed or suspended the employment of all of their staff and another 33 have temporarily suspended staff this year, a labour ministry official said. read more https://www.khmertimeskh.com/50770745/after-human-drain-from-sihanoukville-casinos-follow-suit/ 2

Popular Post natway09
Take note everybody. Taken the Chinese less than 10 years to totally destroy what was a beautiful place. Now it's ruined they move on to ruin the next place & leave their concrete jungles behind them. They should make them leave the site the way they found it 6

J Town
I went there right before the casinos came in. It was a sad, dirty, broken place. I imagine it's only gonna get worse now.

Ketyo
Locusts. They have no idea about what they destroy at home or abroad. Their education system does not teach critical thinking. They are not capable of independent thought. It's true that Sihanoukville was pretty poor before the Chinese. But now it is the <deleted>hole of the universe. trucking
The Casinos gambled and lost. They of all businesses should understand the concept so they have cut and run. Perfectly understandable

biggles45
So sad to see those recent photos. Mates and I went there many times 2012-14 and loved it. Really nice people, clean beaches. Quite an experience after years in Thailand.

Sometimes you have to wonder-is this really progress?

techietraveller84
Do you think the Cambodian leadership will be savvy enough to turn this into an opportunity? As long as it's foreign investors losing their cash but leaving physical assets behind, perhaps there are opportunities? Really hope this becomes a blessing in disguise, for Cambodians at least.
