Former Consul General sentenced to seven years in jail over $30,000 embezzlement

Cambodia’s former Consul general to the city of Kunming was convicted and sentenced to seven years in jail by the Phnom Penh Municipal Court today after being found guilty of embezzling more than $30,000 during his tenure in China between 2016 and 2018.

 

Kruy Lim Heng , 45,  former deputy secretary general of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and former Consul General of Kunming, Yunnan province, was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Unit on December 27, 2019.

 

Le Sokha, Presiding Judge of the Phnom Penh Municipal Court, said Lim Heng was charged with four counts, including “intentional destruction and destruction, abuse of power, misappropriation of public funds”  under Articles 586, 592, 393 and 601 of the Criminal Code and with “not declaring assets and liabilities” under Article 38 of the Law on Anti-Corruption.
