rooster59
'Killer' wild elephant tracked down to Rayong mountain and sedated By THE NATION Wildlife sanctuary officials successfully caught a wild elephant that had been on a rampage in Rayong’s Wang Chan district and killed two locals last week. Weeraphong Korawat, head of Khao Ang Reu Nai Wildlife Sanctuary, said that at 6pm on Friday, a team of 50 officials tracked the elephant, nicknamed “spotted tusks” due to the colour of its tusks, down to Singto Mountain in Pa Yub Nai subdistrict of Wang Chan district. “We shot him with a tranquiliser dart and attached a tracking collar on him in case he escapes,” he said. “The area where we found him is mountainous and inaccessible for a large truck, therefore we plan to use a backhoe loader to bring him to a more open area and then put him on a transport truck.” The elephant had reportedly killed two rubber harvesters in Rayong’s Khao Cha Mao and Wang Chan districts last week, prompting the province to announce the areas as dangerous zones and prohibiting locals from going out at night. Banyat Jetanachan, Rayong’s member of parliament, visited wildlife sanctuary officials on Friday and provided camping equipment and necessary items to officials who have been tracking the animal since October 3. “The province is planning to transport “spotted tusks” to Elephant Nature Park in Sa Kaeo province to give it proper care,” he said. Popular Post Nero Dog
There's lots about Khao Chamao. Two were around our farm last night. Don't know the answer! They have to eat. Leave them well alone and accept 20% crop loss. These creatures are tormented by shots, electric fences, catapults. Perhaps the government should compensate farmers and give the land back to the animals. 3

rupert the bear
unfortuntely these animals have been there for millenia the humans and their farms but a very short time.they need to eat.their natural habitat has been devoured in the last 3 decades theres no place for them to live.even national parks are driving massive roads thru them so what hope do they have?the animals get anxious stressed and then frightened and angry some have young.some understanding of this needs to be taken onboard with thais, theyre always ranting on about buddhism but fail to grasp many of its basic concepts, the sanctity of all life, perhaps they should dress them up as soi dogs thats the level of stupidity we are dealing with.of course the soi dogs dont threaten the amount of baht coming thru the door so theyre safe.govt action has helped in this case but doesnt solve the basic situation.the people should maybe go.check the land docs is a start or just reserve the area and move the people out, vigorously prosecute the poinsoners as im sure theyve had em or soon will as thats the usual way here 1
