So right now I actually don't think that China is such a big threat compared to some other countries that are still spiking. Do I trust the numbers that China and Thailand is publicing. No but it seems that their health care systems are still doing fine and is not overburdened which could be a good indicator. Here in Denmark we have seen a rise the last month, but it starts to drop again, and our contact number is currently 1 which means it's under control, but the winter is knocking on the door, so we don't know how that will go. I think we had between 350-600 new cases each day the last 14 days, but we're also testing a lot more than most countries. Its about 33% of the population that has been tested so far. The tour companies then bargain at cutthroat prices, that offer little profit to the Thai businesses. So why bother???? Sure but some hotels are locally owned and do get revenue for rooms and agreed services, some of which is paid out as staff salaries, and some to local providers to the hotels. Better than nothing. Others are somehow owned by Chinese companies etc., but local staff and supplies get paid salaries, for local provisions etc., better than nothing. No, it isn't. Just ask the Thai authorities. Everything is coming up roses. No problemo. Why, heck, there never really was any COVID at all in China. That's just an irresponsible rumor designed to hurt Thai tourism. Don't ask them to say anything different. They're not listening. Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, nahhhhhh. There is no real need at all for them to Travel and destroy the Chinese Economy. Only late last week there was another outbreak of Covid 19 in Southern China, the latest of many such outbreaks across the Nation. With the onset of Autumn and Winter, this was about the time last Year when the original outbreak in Wuhan was declared, and I expect there to be many more spurious outbreaks going into the colder Months, much as is affecting Europe at the moment. Caldera
Another unworkable proposal. If you cannot even step outside of your hotel to visit the nearest 7/11 on your own, why visit a foreign country at all? Also, what about all those Thais who will get in close contact with those tourists? Waitresses and bus drivers, the likes? Will they need to be isolated from other Thais? Otherwise it's easy to see how an infected tourist could spark community transmission in Thailand, even if the tourists themselves are "shepherded". Who shepherds the shepherds?

Of course they want a no quarantine because most if not all of these Chinese supposed tourists only get 2 weeks off of work. Then thats why the want to put them in a bubble and move them around like cattle in a big group. However, I feel it will be like hearding cats. The Chinese tourists may not want to be herded around. They enjoy visiting Chinatown, go shopping around town etc.
samsensam
while in theory this could kind of work as these tour groups were basically herded around prior to the pandemic. however there will be serious restrictions on where they can go and what they can do - and the big one; these are basically package tourists, not wealthy or big spenders, so what about the previously anticipated 1.2 billion baht/month income for the tourist sector? Trolling4warlords
"At least it's better than nothing". TELL that to the Thais that are having a tough time putting food on the table. At least you tried right? That means you are now absolved of all responsibility. You can now go back to your multi million dollar homes from all the "brown envelopes" from the bribes you've been taking. They claimed they tried everything. They haven't tried common sense. Shey420
Really opening up to tourism from abroad is impossible," admitted tourism council chief Chairat Trairattanajaratporn who said that the 14 day quarantine that went with the STV was necessary but would put most people off. "It was better than nothing," he assessed. But not much more than that. Sure the 14 day quarantine put most people off but really its all those hoops you have to jump through. Its the paying for everything before you get approved. Its the lets track you like a dog even after asq. Its the we only want wealthy tourist to come and Its the pay for this high priced resort. Really if they wanted tourist back they would just open and tell people they have to quarantine 14 days and they get a extended visa. After a month lower the quarantine for lower case countries. Essentially that means engaging with countries where Covid-19 has been under control for at least 2 months and the risk is now. And allowing in tourists who would not quarantine at all but be shepherded and insured by tour group companies. And this can only mean one thing: Chinese tour groups. Not after the Chinese publicly declaring their first home-grown cluster in Qingdao it doesn't. Covid-19: China's Qingdao to test nine million in five days The Chinese city of Qingdao is testing its entire population of nine million people for Covid-19 over a period of five days. The mass testing comes after the discovery of a dozen cases linked to a hospital treating coronavirus patients arriving from abroad. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-54504785
