Popular Post webfact
Ambassadors from 28 countries given tour of Phuket in bid to boost confidence in island tourism Picture: Manager Online The Phuket Tourist Association has invited ambassadors and consulate officials from 28 countries to visit the island for three days in November. They hope the visit will lead them to inspire foreigners living and working in Thailand to have confidence in travelling to Phuket for holidays to give the area a much needed economic boost. Vice president in charge of foreign affairs at the association Nanthida Atiset said that Thailand has the virus under control and domestic tourists are starting to travel again but she acknowledged that Phuket was still in crisis. She hopes that by inviting the diplomats to the "Phuket Ambassadors' Trip 2020' from November 14th to 16th there will be more expats visiting and they in turn will inspire friends abroad to come to Phuket when the country is opened again. Ambassadors and their partners from the top ten countries who visited Phuket in 2019 have been invited as well as diplomats from consulates that have offices in Phuket. They will visit the airport, tour the natural wonders of Phuket, go to Patong and the old city. They will see the current state of tourism in Phuket. In addition they will release turtles at a beach. Lived here long enough to know that Phuket's business mafia treats foreigners like dirt under their feet. Nothing is suppose to return to normal ever again. Academics, billionaires, NGOs, and think-tanks have been blasting out that message since March. "There will be no return to "normal", so get ready to embrace the New Normal" is the message. Phuket and all other tourist venues will completely understand exactly what "New Normal" means by this time next year. They don't have a clue at the current moment. They think "normal" will return by 2021 as there are cheerleaders within the halls of power telling them just that. However, New Normal will be empty beaches, shuttered businesses, and booming business at upscale, exclusive resorts, boutiques, and Michilin-awarded restaurants. Commoner tourist can go elsewhere; commoner Thais can build brick walls, plant rice, and eat rice stubble next to their ox and buffalo. 5

I agree, things will be different, however am optimistic as more and more people wake up to the fact that we have all been conned, including some governments, that borders will open up again and things will return to whatever the new normal will be, that said, those mentioned in your post will have to try somethings else as this plannedemic would have failed, not totally, but to a degree, they will still have made money out of it.

ezzra
What't the point showing off merchandise when no one can buy and the sellers themselves are not sure they want to sell or not, and if yes, it comes with conditions attached, well at least they had a nice day outing in Phuket and a free lunch... ThailandRyan
This Mr./Ms./Mrs. Ambassador is an ASQ Hotel, please step into the room and sample the atmosphere. Look through the windows and see what those folks coming to Thailand will see during there stay. Sorry!, but no I do not understand why you would think the accommodations are like a prison. What?, you mean people do not stay in rooms for 14 days while on vacation!, well I think your wrong Sir/Madam. What? No they will be free to roam around after the 14 days, but will have a Covid minder following them around, sort of like a guided tour. Why? Well we do not want them to mix with the Thai people as they could still be dirty foreigners. 1

We'll all receive mandated vaccinations, Covid will be eradicated from the face of the Earth, we'll reach zero carbon emissions with the hoi polloi safety locked away, the Earth will become a veritable Paradise, the Eco-conscious global citizens will walk off cliffs like lemmings to spare planet Earth from their planet-killing CO2 emissions and their ice-burg destroying methane farts, and what is left of the masses will find meaning in life humbly serving at the feet of a beatific billionaire class whom will embrace humanity much like the family dog. Be happy that someone is telling the truth for a change. Before all the tourists can even apply for a visa international flights have to be restarted and many airlines are on the edge of bankruptcy, Thai is one of them. There will be few, if any cheap flights. That is before they get into business of visas, ASQ for 14 days at the customers expense but NOT the customers choice, Not forgetting the phone app for track and trace, the 24/7 wrist band, the $100,000 insurance. Also don't forget that many people in the west may have lost their jobs, been furloughed, cant afford to take the time off for a holiday at the risk of looding their jobs. TAT need to stop smoking happy cigarettes, pull their head from the clouds and face reality. The old normal of cheap flights etc and hundreds of thousands from the West has gone forever, certainly for the foreseeable future.
