Does anybody care what this guy says?

Unfortunalely yes!

He is part of the governments propaganda machinery, and his duty is to create and to enhance hysteria and panic about Covid, and the related xenophobia. This works quite well, as you can see from the paranoid reactions of many Thais whenever new cases occur.

There are hardly sensible sources of information available in Thailand about Covid, and mainly he and his side kick Thira get the podium to publish their biased views to the people.

This is a scientific article which unravels quite well some of the mechanisms why other countries with other climatic conditions have different numbers of seasonal flu infections, and it seems quite viable to extend these insights also to the Corona virus. It gives some hints why Thailand regionally might be in a more lucky situation as well.

I have some doubts if this "expert" Yong ever reads somehing like this, otherwise he would debate on higher standards and should feel quite embarrassed himselve by his dumb weekly gossip. Reading his gossip between the lines shows again his strong and hardly hidden anti-western racism and his aim to boost xenobhobia against caucasians in Thailand.

Throughout most of southeast Asia, they are aligned with China. They after afterall, mostly ethnically Chinese. They have a deep seated inferiority complex and savor ever opportunity to claim Chinese are better than Westerners.

Understand your point and agree that this is one aspect which plays a role for a part of the people with Chinese roots in South-East Asia.

But, there are also people in this group who prefer to align more with Western countries rather than with the PRC with its CCP. The best examples are the people from Hongkong and Taiwan. Good possible that this old guy Yong belongs to the first group, though.

The main driving force behind what is going on in South-East Asia, and not only there - is that Chinas government supports and buys corrupt governments in the region with big bribes, to make them their political allies and to buy the country in order to bring it into Chinas sphere of influence. Or, to say it more clearly, to make them vassal states. This is a well known policy of Chinas road and belt initiative, and most of the countries in the region are victims of this already.

The best example from Thailand are these luxury watches, which appeared around the same time when the Thai government signed the first contracts on these Chinese submarines and on the Chinese high speed trains.

This Dr. Yong and his side kick Thira of Chula university seem to be appointed simply as mouthpieces of the government, with the duty to create paranoia and xenophobia, as part of the program to isolate the country against Western influence.

The reasons for this policy are manifold:

- Exaggeration of the threat resulting from Covid, to have reasons to block Westerners entering the country, in order to reduce the number of Western observers while Thailand moves backwards to an even more totalitarian system, and while a bloody crackdown on the protest might be commited

- Willingly ruining parts of the Thai industry, especially the tourism industry and the real estate market, to create cheap investment opportunities for the Chinese friends of the generals

- Indoctrination of the Thai people by making them believe to be superior over foreigners, and by this to position the great mass of the Thai people at the bottom of the Sakdina pyramide over "dirty" foreigners, to give them someone to look down at, which is simply thought as a measure of stabilizing the political system

Some more points are not difficult to find.

Yong has over 1000 pulblications in virology International journals. How about you? I don't see any racism in his articles. Perhaps take of your beer glasses occasionally and you will see that.

Possibly your are unable or unwilling to differentiate between science (with its control and correction mechanisms to ensure quality), and individual scientists who are humans and who can have biased personal political views. Independently what Yong might have contributed to science in his papers (and in which the scientific community of course does not accept racism), now he is obvisouly biased and contributes a biased, rascist and xenophobic input to the discussion about Covid in Thailand.

I do not expect that everyone is able to see this. You obvisouly are not able. And, I see your post as pathetic, very pathetic.

The most interesting conclusion is that it is admitted that the substantial difference is the DNA and if we then reason in Chinese with the ancient Sun Zi's The Art of War we can also assume that Covid is a well-planned attack against the West for weaken it economically and consequently militarily.

It is a very concrete possibility for Chinese culture.

For a similar study specifically on Covid do a search for SSRN-id3550308.

Thank you JimboJ for sharing this. I checked and looked for newer papers from the list, and this one from September probably gives a good overview:

https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article/file?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0238339&type=printable

The impact of temperature and absolute humidity seems to be quite evident, which also explains what right now happens on the colder weather on the Northern hemisphere.

The key is in my opinion the total virus load of inhaled  air, which leads not only to more, but also in average to more severe infections in cold climate in general (Europe, US, China during winter time) as there the virus survives longer in the air, but also in closed rooms with weak ventilation, or in societies with a tense population (as let's say in the slums off Kalkutta, Manila or Jakarta).

All  three conditions are either not given or at least less likely in the countries not as affected so strongly by Covid, like Thailand and its neighbouring countries in South East Asia, which gives a hint on the relatively low numbers and the relatively safe situation there, but also on the relatively safe situation on the northern hemisphere during summer time. Another effect on which I have seen no studies yet might be an positive impact of air conditioning by reducing the virus load. Not because an AC reduces the temperature, but because an AC removes aerosoles from the air and by this reduces the virus load in the ambient air.

Another point is that the treatment of Covid now is better possible already than 6 months ago. Both factors together, the climatic and social conditions of Thailand on the one hand, and the better capabilities of a treatment of Covid infections everywhere on the other hand, make the situation specifically in Thailand relatively safe.

Over all, in my opinion Thailand has not much reason for so much panicking as Yong always tries to make the people believe. For a Thai expert on Covid, it would be a sensible move to inform the public about these things instead of promoting panic and xenophobia.
