Leaver 5,498
It would be embarrassing if after all the protest to open the boarders, no one came.

spoon1967 247
I think we all agree, the 14 day ASQ is the big burden, along with of course the restriction for entry on general 'tourists" / retirees. The other stuff, CoE, pre-travel insurance and Neg Test and fit to fly, can be overcome, with some limited trouble or inconvenience, not saying it's easy as pie. I work in the GCC, the country I work in has just changed the entry requirements, you only need a Neg test (72 hours before travel). On arrival you self isolate for 2 days, register your location on an App, book a COVID test on-line after registering, go for the test, results back in 24/48 hours, if it's negative, you're released from isolation. The most isolation/quarantine you will do if you're clear of COVID is 4 days, now doesn't that seem like a good idea. I know some will argue that the virus could be in your system and not show until 7-14 days, I'm not a virus specialist so I don't know, however, I think the world has to take a more realistic view on travel and the economy, I'm not saying that comes above health, but it can be done and managed better than it is now. To save Thailand tourism there has to be thousands if not tens of thousands arriving in the kingdom every day, 7 days per week, month after month. The bread and butter is the 1 - 2 week tourists in a constant roll over. All persons wanting or able to stay "3 or 4 months of the winter" would not be enough volume to pay electric bill at Suvarnabhumi. Or keep all the airlines flying to Bangkok. Or keep the hotels open. Etc. Etc. Etc. Well, that's never going to happen. The post I referring to said no one would do it, which is wrong.

Very few regular tourists go for 3-4 months in one hit. Myself and a few friends with similar trip counts of between 150-200 + but none of us go for that in one period of time Cumulatively yes annually, but not single trips I hear you, but short holidays are not on the cards at the moment I'm afraid. There are quite a few you would like to do as I described, but are not allowed.

NO farangs are coming under the rip off quarantine setup. Secondly most countries airport not allowing flights. To early and Chinese are useless tourists they are bus tourists and hotel. They dont even come under tourist banner. Tourism will only happen with pre flight testing and again swab on arrival. Self quarantine with NO added rip offs.

Expats living/working here ...... maybe. People with properties/families ........ maybe. Criminals/illegal workers ......... maybe. 2-3 weeks tourists, not a bloody chance. Plenty "snowbirds" every year. They will do quarantine. Why do you decide for others?

I know Australia has opened up to allow New Zealand tourists in however its a one way ticket at this stage. No quarantine required . But they will have to quarantine for 2 weeks when they fly back to NZ, so would only interest people desperate to reunite with family members.
Thomas J 2,234
Perhaps there are those who are willing to come and endure the 14 day quarantine. I can only think they are for the most part those who own property here in Thailand and wish to stay for months. I can not fathom someone wanting to come on a 30 day holiday and spend the first 14 days of it quarantined in a hotel room. One way or another, without substantial tourist traffic the areas are just kidding themselves that it would make a meaningful impact on the plight of those who depend on tourism for a living.

The baht doesn't get stronger every day. What papers do you read? Western currencies goes up and down in reference to the USD, not the baht.

Why do you decide for others? You don't seem to understand it's not the quarantine per se that scares people away. It's the total cost for everything to obtain the CoE. If you get below ฿100,000 you're lucky. No "snowbirds" want to start with that cost. 2

Psychologically well adjusted Canadians and Americans have always gone to Mexico and similar close destinations like Costa Rica for a break from the cold. It's hard core sex addicts and involuntary celibates that subject themselves to 24 to 36 sleepless hours being crammed in a metal tube like sardines and shuffled through connecting airports like penguins. And all that capped off with a wait to catch a bus to complete the pilgrimage to Pattaya. For many in the US its a ~4 hour flight and an hour and a half later they're sitting on a Mexican beach with a drink.
