Opening MS Word with a switch

Whenever I open a document with MS Word eight times out of ten I get a BSOD.

I have found that if I use the "run winword.exe /a" command I have no problem with BSOD and then just navigate to the file I want to edit.

What I want to be able to do is just double click on my document and have Word open with that /a switch already set.  I suspect I will have to do it per file type through the registry, but has anybody any better idea?

Command-line switches for Microsoft Office products

support.microsoft.com

You can add options like this by using subcommands called command-line switches to an Office app's startup command.

If you want to use the customization just one time, you can type the command and switch in the Run dialog box (Start menu) in Microsoft Windows. If you want to use a particular switch many times or every time that you start the app, you can create a desktop shortcut that starts the program by using the same switch and parameters. This article describes how to do both.
