Thai media Sanook reported that days of heavy rain had resulted in serious flooding in Sa Kaew province in the eastern part of Thailand up to the Cambodian border.

Provincial governor Kiatsak Janthara said that the result of a depression had caused a serious situation in eight districts, 34 sub-districts and 278 villages.

Particularly badly affected were the districts of Muang Sa Kaeo, Watthana Nakhon and Aranyaprathet.

In the latter water up to 50 cms deep was affecting markets, homes, temples and schools.

Schools had been shut.

Waters were receding in some areas as damage assessments were being carried out.

For a country inundated annually, they don't seem to take drainage seriously at all.

Eventually in the capitol Bangkok they will take flooding/drainage seriously as it affects Thailands business and image let alone tourism.

However the rest of Thailand can  suffer as the budget has been ear-marked for more important things like toys for the navy.
