Thailand welcomes back tourists after April virus ban

BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand received a group of tourists from China on Tuesday, its first such arrivals since a ban on commercial flights was imposed in April to combat the coronavirus pandemic, a senior official said, as street demonstrations escalate.

Phuket Immigration confirms retirement ‘visa’ income combo still accepted

PHUKET:-- Phuket Immigration has confirmed that retirees applying for a one-year permit-to-stay by providing proof of at least B400,000 kept in a Thai bank account plus an income that brings the total funds available to at least B800,000 a year is still being accepted.

Protesters spring ‘big surprise’ with mass rendition of national anthem

The pro-democracy movement surprised police and its own supporters this evening (Tuesday) by announcing that no rallies would be held today, instead organising a mass rendition of the national anthem at railway stations.

Online provocateurs seeking violence at rallies, police warn

The Digital Economy and Society Ministry has asked police to take action against 58 social media accounts for “inciting unrest”, in violation of Bangkok’s special emergency decree, said the Severe State of Emergency Joint Operation Centre on Tuesday.

Appeal Court confirms ex-policeman Charoon’s ownership of ฿30m lottery tickets

The 7th Region Appeals Court has upheld the acquittal, by the Kanchanaburi Provincial Court, of Pol Lt Charoon Wimon over the 30-million baht first-prize lottery saga, on the grounds that the prosecutor in this case, Preecha Kraikruan, is not the damaged party as legally defined.

Chiang Mai police refuse to disclose how many protesters they have in custody

In Chiang Mai today, officials at the provincial prison turned down a request, from a group of lecturers and students, to be allowed to visit two protest leaders on remand there, Anont Nampa and Prasit Khrutharoj, claiming that they must be accompanied by the detainees’ lawyers.

PHUKET: The street processions began yesterday (Oct 19) with the first ‘Yew Keng’ procession held at the Choor Su Gong Shrine (Naka Shrine) in Wichit, followed by the devotees and Mah Song spirit mediums leading the procession from the Sapam Shrine, on Thepkrasattri Rd, north of Phuket Town.

Houston police officer killed in shooting incident

A Houston police officer died on Tuesday after being shot while another officer who responded to the same incident was being treated for injuries in the hospital, according to a statement from Texas Governor Greg Abbott.

 

(Reuters) - A 41-year veteran of the Houston police force died on Tuesday after being shot multiple times in the head while another officer who was also shot during the same incident was being treated in the hospital, the city's police chief said.

(Reuters) - Nearly 300,000 more people have died in the United States in 2020 during the coronavirus pandemic than expected based on historical trends, with about two-thirds of the deaths due to COVID-19 illnesses, according to a report released on Tuesday.

Yikes! Two meter python bites Thai lady on the behind as she uses the toilet
