I suspect another smoke and mirrors episode from TAT. Also, why would tourists come, when their Governments have probably issued do not travel notices to Thailand because of political unrest? I wonder which quarantine hotels they are staying in. ???????????? Edited October 21, 2020 by Jimbo53

As for the prediction of 6.7 million tourists this year they would have to fully open by Nov 1st and instantly receive 111,666,666 tourists per day. Given the current situation in BKK I can see that escalating 10 fold if the government announced they were throwing open the doors to the pandemic so the rich and elite could get richer. Firstly why make silly statements that all retiree's are in high Covid wave/spike countries,i personally know 3 that are not. Secondly: Get rid of your Abacus, and use a calculator when trying to do daily percentage figures, nearly 112 million required daily??.?????????????

Maybe they will get a few thousand tourists for the rest of this year. That is brutal. Self Inflicted, they could have let the Covid free tourists that were already in the country stay, and also let the retiree's that spend a lot of money in Supermarkets, restaurants, bars and golf courses back in as a priority, after having lived in Thailand for many years it does not surprise me that they dont,as Thailand works on reverse logic compared to normal Farang/European logic.

polpott
2 minutes ago, Deli said: Coz the Chinese are high rollers... I think this is where TAT gets its figures of Chinese tourist spending power from. Combine the spend of Chinese business people who come here to buy condos with suitcases of cash and the spend of zero baht tourists and you have an average of high spend of Chinese tourists. TAT have always had a problem with differentiating between true tourists and others. They even include those transferring through a Thai airport as "tourists to Thailand".

ChrisKC
I just do not like this wretched emphasis on "quality" tourist. Who will decide? The potential tourist, Immigration or TAT? Edited October 21, 2020 by ChrisKC typo
Popular Post TSF
"What we want now are quality tourists who stay for a long time," Yuthasak said. Wish they'd make their minds up. They had tourists who stayed a long time and all they did was hound them. In their minds real tourists stayed a week or two, once a year. Anyone who stayed "for a long time" was accused of abusing tourist visas and often refused entry at airports and told they were no longer bona fide tourists and to get the appropriate visa.

Interesting that they now say they're only in the "discussion" phase, considering that this was reported here in late September: "The third flight mentioned by the media will be on November 1st from what they termed "prathet Scandinavia" or "the country of Scandinavia". "This will contain 120 passengers and also be bound for Suvarnabhumi." So I guess that was completely invented...?

smudger1951
If its all about the money I would argue the VOA max 30 day visitors spend a lot more money and more scheduled flights pay more airport taxes etc. But they don't what that now apparently and thats where the questions start.... 1

So the headline couldn't have got it more wrong. "Thailand welcomes back tourists", not welcome and not tourists. particularly for Chinese tourists as they still remember who brought Covid to Thailand in the first place. nahkit
Presumably the ones that have arrived wont be travelling as a group once quarantine is over as we all know that groups of five or more aren't allowed under the emergency rules. Popular Post Cali farong
Quality Tourist who stay a long time! Not us farangs on long stay visas who rent houses and spend a considerable amount of money. i spend 8 months a year In Thailand but probably won’t be able to get back because I’m from USA. I know most people are jealous that they’re not from USA but it is what it is. I live in a county that has only 10 deaths. Oh well I’ll just keep stacking up mucho bucks and then take advantage of good deals due to Thailand ruining people’s lives 2 2 1
