Chasing up a UK passport renewal

After a number of emails, I finally got a reply and an apology:

 

Dear Mr ****

 

Thank you for your email and bringing this to our attention.  You did indeed make payment on 15 September and the application should have been updated with the payment information, but this didn’t happen and the application has been waiting for an update since that time.

 

I’m very sorry for our error; the application has now been updated to show payment has been made.  I will also contact the team processing the application, to ask that it is prioritised.

I think you'll find this is a UKVI/FCO requirement; VFS just follow instructions and have no part in the decision-making.

Adult passports area lot more straightforward, so processing tends to be quicker.

 

That wasn't the reason.  As their email clearly states, an error was made by the payment processing department.
