Popular Post webfact
Opening to tourists: Three hundred more Chinese this month - Europeans must wait until November Picture: Thai Rath Thailand's tourism minister Pipat Ratchakitprakarn told Thai Rath that 300 foreign tourists would be arriving in Thailand before the end of October on the STV (special tourist visa). It will be no surprise to many Thai watchers that all of them will be Chinese. Thai Rath said in their headline on a piece summing up the latest pandemic news worldwide and in Thailand, that 40 Chinese arrived from Shanghai on Tuesday all testing negative for coronavirus. In comments further attributed to billionaire minister Pipat it was reported that arrivals on the STV from Europe would start next month. Earlier reports suggested these may be Russians or perhaps Scandinavians - it depends who you ask, notes Thaivisa. In other snippets the media reported that PM Prayut Chan-ocha had thanked all his agencies for their work and urged them to communicate well to the Thai people about government policy. That policy seems confused at best. A headline today indicated that plans were afoot to reduce state quarantine yet Prayut said after a meeting at government house there would be no reduction yet as many things had to be considered. Similarly health minister Anutin Charnvirakul has displayed contradictory behavior - gung-ho about the arrival of the Chinese one minute and evasive about the ending of the Covid-19 emergency decree the next. This will only add fuel to the fire of those that say emergency measures suit the policies of the government while being detrimental to the people, notes Thaivisa. Further worries for the authorities, said Thai Rath, were the porous land borders with an incursion in Mae Sot, Tak, in the north west of particular concern. There is no definite answer, their opinion changes daily, with so many "experts" coming out with different opinions. Pretty similar to most of this governments decisions on any subject. 19

Popular Post ThailandRyan
I see a web of tangle lies will be unfolding soon especially with this little nugget. "China will continue to suspend outbound group tours and ban travel agencies from allowing inbound tours due to the risk of a resurgence in coronavirus cases this winter, authorities said. The country's Ministry of Culture and Tourism made the announcement in a notice published on its website on Wednesday" Can someone help the Thai Government understand that other countries are still not cooperating as they say they are. Can someone explain to me who these 39 Chinese tourists really are? or, are they just really a new set of possible new diplomatic staff that have come to conduct an annual change at the end of the year in the Chinese embassy. However, before stepping into place they get a free vacation first, just a few thoughts off the top of my head..

It just confirms what was already obvious, that the people arriving here from China under the STV scheme are not tourists. It will be interesting to see if the same applies to the people supposedly coming from the country of Scandinavia, lol. 3

Yet, in all the world newspapers and media streams they are saluting Thailand and it's re-opening of tourism. A friend from California called and asked since tourists are now welcomed if she could get here and do a VOE. I had to burst her bubble and tell her it was all smoke and mirrors. She instead will be heading to Hawaii for a month and then to Belize for a month where she will work from a Villa remotely, since it is now open to travelers. To be fair, the Reuters piece did say "China will continue to suspend outbound group tours... " so these could be 'individual' tourists, if they are in fact tourists to begin with. Perhaps there really are people in this world who think going on tour without interacting with anything local, including its people and travelling only on predestined routes and destinations AFTER spending 14 days in quarantine in a foreign country, is an ideal vacation LOL

When I worked for the Brit foreign service, staff at our embassies changed at the end of their alloted tour. It would've been impossible for all staff to start and end their tour at the same time because of each of the staff's previous tour and personal commitments. You also needed the staff who'd been at a posting longer to be able to guide you through the first few months of your stint. I can't see an embassy operating without that continuity. The Chinese of course may operate differently.
