Pattaya: International conference calls with TAT - Chinese want to come back, Indians and Russians can't

Thai media 77kaoded reported on a meeting to discuss tourism in Pattaya that was held under the chairmanship of Pattaya Business and Tourism chief Ekkasit Ngamphichet at the Green Park Resort hotel in north Pattaya.

Highlight of the meeting were video conference calls with Tourism of Thailand representatives in China, India and Russia.

These three markets are the main source of visitors to Pattaya, noted the media.

The rep in China reported that the pandemic there was getting much better and 600 million Chinese were travelling domestically.

But many reported that this was nowhere near as good as coming to Thailand. They wanted to return to Thailand and would come "for sure" if and when the country opens up properly.

Thaivisa notes that the rep was referring to China opening up not Thailand where severe restrictions also remain in place.

In the meantime the TAT in China were busy arranging potential packages and organising social media campaigns in anticipation.

The news from the TAT reps in India and Russia was far less optimistic.

They said the pandemic was still rampant there and there was only domestic tourism, none internationally at all.

Such info is about Pattaya only,  Not even other tourist destinations in Thailand.

Nevertheless I am not as pessimistic now as weeks ago.

First off, we will need the vaccines for any hope.

Secondly, testing process of vaccines developed by PRC is going very well and mass production is already in the plan.   So how soon will it come ?   Expect to happen in early months of 2021.   ( This is not reported in Western media )

Thirdly,  Thailand want  "already vaccined"  foreigners -- with the injection certain days before travel --- C-19 testing prior to travel and upon arrival.

Fourthly,   PRC are generally receptive about visiting Thailand among all nearby oversea countries.

They like Thailand for a variety of reasons.

For those of you who are going to talk about this and that groups of tourists not spending money,  and ... blah blah blah.,  you save your comment for self.   Nowadays The Thai working on tourism desperately need foreign tourists coming regardless of nationality or bringing in RMB or Euro or greenback or Yens or Rubles whatever to keep the Bahts flowing in Pattaya, Phuket etc.

Any foreign tourists are welcomed.

How about the people of Canada and other northern countries that are not USA, or Russia,

When will we get a TAT rep to help the Frozen Chosen Canadians, that want to escape the

snow and cold of the approaching Canadian Winter?  I would say the same for the Aussies that are

getting close to roasting with their approaching Summer, as well, are there any TAT reps,  to

help them out of their hot, hot dilemma.

Just how out of touch are these people.

China has banned all tours to Foreign Lands, and its a good job that they have, as the Pandemic in China is still not under control, and with the onset of colder Weather, the situation is going to escalate.

Thailand classes China as a safe Country for Tourists - how delusional.

Baht will always trump safety in Thailand.  China has banned all tours to foreign lands; a bit like locking the barn door after the Covid horse has bolted.  Thailand does it all the time; wait for a disaster then try to do something about it later.
