because testing is mostly or solely done on those in quarantine, it is only finding positive case of those in quarantine, when it could easily be out in the general population.

This sounds plausible...

I've always suspected the virus  SARS-CoV-2 is more prevalent in Thailand than the authorities admit but then it would appear the general populous do not go on to develop the disease Covid 19 or certainly not in any great numbers.

Since they've only done 14k tests/m population (159th of 197 countries reporting test counts) intensively tested quarantinees are basically the only sub-population they're going to get a decent picture of...

First, this woman and husband are crazy coming to Thailand to enjoy their nice home on Kho Samui.

They must be rich and somehow connected with the Thai government to be let in the country.

THE BIG QUESTION :HOW THESE PEOPLE  WERE ABLE TO GET AN ENTRANCE VISA TO THAILAND?

These comments are emotional rather than logical.

From reading the press (which is not always accurate) early articles stated that the lady or spouse had dual citizenship. Thai/French. In which case she could re-enter Thailand.

Tourist visas are not allowed. She is quoted as being a French tourist because the press here are lazy and do not want to investigate.

She could also come in on a diplomatic passport. A work permit. Certain types of retirement visa, an elite card member or, a crew member of a boat or a plane, a medical specialist etc etc. There are many types of people being allowed in.

This lady and her family are based on Koh Samui. Her child is at school here.

They are probably not crazy, nor rich nor connected to 'someone high up'. Just ordinary people trying to get on with their lives. Just like the rest of us.

I know two people who got in the USA. They got sick.... and then they got better. Life goes on, remember people?

I know 2 folks in the USA that got it, one recovered in a few days without much issue. The other was in ICU for over a week, in the hospital for over 2 weeks, and nearly died.

The only visa type that is unavailabe to French people is the STV

Other types allowed in, can come from any country

If you are 50, or married to a Thai, or emplyed here (with work permit etc) you can come.

Oh ok so you mean that she was let in because she was over 50 (I think that she was 59).

Yes for the court case where I am expected to participate and which is postponed due to my unability to come with Covid crisis I am under 50 nor married to a Thai national nor employed here... (the Thai national suied risks over 20 years of jail for what has been done and the offenses that were commited in the Thai law and the evidences of those offense that have been forwarded to the court; to give an idea of the court case in penal law that I am talking about...). The case is already stressfull and includes great and heavy consequences but the impossibility of actually continuing it due to the impossibility to come to Thailand and the waiting whike the guilty is showing high honorability and respectability on social medias is very stressing in the meantime.

Lou Provencaou

If Provence wants more information, get in touch by WEB with the French Embassy.
Currently, an update is performed according to the wind direction.
But the way the French play by the rules, and the number of sick and fatalities, there's a good chance Thailand will be just a memory for some.
No, the French woman did not have a visa because she was over 50, but she was able to get the right visa, in all honesty, because her son, who was accompanying her, was in school.
His request dated from June or July.
This has since changed.

That's the "Covid free Thailand" up the Suwanee !

She may have caught it from an untested Thai.

Yes, I think a more realistic analysis of how she finished up with COVID, or the testing carried out on her was <deleted>!

Most plausible scenario is she caught the virus coming here on the airplane, in the airport, in quarantine or on the way to Koh Samui from an infected Thai local.  It takes awhile for the virus to multiply to show up on the test. ????

First snow of Autumn.  We already had one snowfall in Summer, 555.

Most likely cause is that she contracted the virus in the ASQ hotel.  The ASQ will contain people from many high risk countries, and they are only transfered to a hospital if they test positive and develop symptoms.

So there's a good chance of asymptomatic COVID cases in every ASQ.  Then we have staff going from room to room, 'interns' going to the gym and common areas after a (possibly false) negative test, plus the possibility of illicit meetings.

Most likely place to catch COVID in Thailand is probably an ASQ.

Good to know I'm as smart as I think I am. ????

Thailand is a nation of hypochondriacs and gossips. If there were cases, symptoms, hospitalisations, or deaths, you would hear about it.

Exactly. No way in the world are Thais being hospitalized, dying, and being cremated from covid19. The news would spread like wildfire across the bush telegraph. My Thai missus would hear about it, all your Thai missuses & TGFs would hear about it, and they wouldn't stop blathering on about it.
