I am due to have a cystocopy on Tuesday.   The problem I have currently started almost 4 months ago.

It started as a stonge urge to pee and now constant severe pain in the uretha which is so bad I am already in the hospital on 4 hourly doses of Methadone and Morphine,I checked myself out on Saturday as they gave me some gel and that seemed to stop the pain so I thought I would stay at home to save some money. But after 4 hours the pain was awful and I had to come back in

I have some concerns regarding the procedure that people that have had this procedure may be able to comment on

Firstly the doc has intimated that he won't be able to address the problem until he goes inside and looks inside.

I have terrible trouble peeing I had a TURP operation just over a year ago and I have continued to have issues and infections since then.

He has said that they would put me under for the length of the procedure to unblock the uretha should that be the cause.

What I have read makes me question this?

I have been given an estimate of between 180-220 for this procedure maybe more if he has work to do

I would have gone to urologists in Bangkok but the pain is just to much

Your thoughts please

Forgive me if I do not reply to any questions promptly but my phone is not working properly

I would add that I had an MRI of my prostate completed and that showed no signs of cancer or any other problems

Blood and urine tests completed here last week were negative

I did find that when he did the cystascope a month ago that I have urinary retention which he says may get better or may not.

I have been prescribed Ucholine and Urief. However it's not beyond the realms of possiblity that my current issues were a result of a cystocopy, . I have read that a urethal stricture can be a result of such or a catheter which I have had to use a few times, not just at this hospital.

Thanks

Talk with Sheryl.

I would be getting a second opinion. Had a cystoscopy at Bangkok Hospital in Chiang Mai on October 6 with Dr. Wittawat Rawiyotai, he was very good. Cost 17,600 baht. Flexible cystoscope, local anaesthetic.

The cost of 180 - 220 seems high, I was quoted 35 - 50 for a cystoscopy with IV sedation.

I did have a problem with urinary retention about a week after the procedure, 1 mg of doxazocin daily fixed it almost instantaneously. Fairly advanced BPH.

I would say that the price I have for the estimate includes in patient and home meds and rooms meals and doctors costs, but upwards of 220,000 Baht seems a lot when for the first 3 nights the total price was 30,000

Are you sure that is the price for just the cystoscopy and not also for dilation of the urethra etc?

If only for cystoscopy, even with general anesthesia, does seem high.

I would suggest you get a second opinion.  Try Dr. Wittawat  at Bangkok Hospital Chiang Mai.

Bangkok Hospital IME takes a deposit which covers almost the full cost of the procedure in advance, then bills for any complications on top of that afterwards. I paid 17,000 baht deposit, then 600 baht afterwards.
