I used to sell capital equipment before the single market came into being and for a small item freight forwarding charges could exceed the cost of the goods. I learned to do the paperwork myself to reduce costs and around 1980 I took 6 small orthopedic ovens in the back of a car down to Brive near the Spanish border. Customs inspection is a different ballgame for unusual equipment and leaving the customs union will be a step back in time. Yes, but you didn't have a blue passport then, did you! Giving the U.K. the impression that the fishing rights are so extremely important for France/Europe ( when in fact it represent economically not much ), and then on the very last minute, giving in. Of course as counterpart of this "oh so important giving in", they will expect from the U.K. something similar. This " something similar " being than something really economically important. The US ambassador? Are you trying to say that your magnificent prediction was of an event which happens every year in May at the American military cemetery in Brookwood? So you managed to predict an annual event which actually occurred at least three months before you made your prediction! BTW, Memorial Day this year was 25th May, and due to lockdown the service, due to be held on Sunday 24th, like all such was conducted virtually: Virtual Memorial Day Ceremonies Confirmed Quote The ABMC had already confirmed that all of their memorial sites, including the Cambridge American Cemetery and Brookwood American Cemetery in the UK, would be closed during the lockdown. Seems I know far more about what happened, and is happening, where I live than you do from your perch! For that to happen will require a UK/EU trade deal of some sort. If we end up with no deal then the Japan/UK deal will only be worth the crumbs left over from the Japan/EU deal. 7by7
@evadgib, you brought in the US ambassador and Brookwood as 'proof' of your prediction. The only connection between them is the Memorial Day service. Of course, now that you've discovered that it's an annual event which this year, as every year, happened in May, three months at least before your prediction, you have to make up an excuse to pretend you meant something else. I am well aware that Brookwood hospital closed; in 1994! The site is now occupied by a housing estate, a Sainsbury's and Wat Phra Dhammakaya Thai Buddhist temple. I thought, though, that you were boasting of foreknowledge of events which were going to happen; not one which happened last May and another one 26 years ago! Indeed the Japanese automobile industry in the UK (the "transplants") are there for the European market. Anyway even if there is a deal for the automotive industry, electric cars production in the UK won't be viable.. And anyway what will hurt most is the services sector Quote The professional and business services sector is vital to the UK’s economy, adding an estimated £224.8 billion to the UK economy and providing some 4.6 million jobs. This sector includes advertising, legal services, market research, accountancy, audit, architecture, engineering, PR and management consulting. Quote Future UK-EU arrangements on trade in services will have a big impact on this sector, particularly smaller operators. This inquiry has shown that the needs of this hugely important sector have been overlooked by the Government during negotiations. https://committees.parliament.uk/committee/447/eu-services-subcommittee/news/119985/uks-vital-professional-and-business-services-overlooked-in-trade-negotiations/
