Phuket Carnival hoped to help local businesses

The eight-day carnival, now in its 34th year, will begin this Sunday (Nov 1), Patong Mayor Chalermluck Kebsup announced on Tuesday (Oct 27).

 

PHUKET: Officials are hoping that the Phuket Carnival, the festival held in Patong each year traditionally to mark the beginning of the tourism high season, will lure some 15,000 to 30,000 people to the island, and generate at least B120 million for the local economy.

Thai Health Ministry to tighten anti-COVID-19 measures at quarantine facilities

Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health is considering adjustments to the COVID-19 preventive measures at more than 100 hotels under the alternative state quarantine programme, as well as any use of common facilities by those in quarantine at such locations. The move is to avoid a repeat of an incident in Samut Prakan province, where coronavirus was found on fitness equipment and three people staying there, including a French tourist, were found to be infected.

NICE, France (Reuters) - A woman was beheaded by an attacker with a knife who also killed two other people at a church in the French city of Nice on Thursday, police said, in an incident the city's mayor described as terrorism.

Tests find French woman did not contract Covid-19 in Samut Prakan hotel

Dr Sopon Iamsirithaworn, director of the Disease Control Department’s Bureau of General Communicable Diseases, said on Thursday the French patient’s test did not match that of two other foreign guests at the same hotel who tested positive. He said tests showed the woman had contracted the infection 17 days earlier, which rules out the Samut Prakan hotel.
