webfact
Sleepy truck driver goes headlong into a building in Phrae By THE NATION A truck crashed into a building in Phrae province early on Thursday after the driver dozed off behind the wheel. Police learned of the accident at 4.40am and contacted the rescue team. Upon arrival, officials found one half of the truck inside the building and the other outside on the street. The truck was loaded with wood. The driver, identified as Sawang Choithong, 53, was trapped inside the vehicle and it took rescue officials around half an hour to pull him out. The man was later sent to a local hospital. Sawang said he was transporting wood from a sawmill in Phrae’s Wang Chin district to a plywood factory in Den Chai. However, he said, he lost consciousness while driving and ended up ploughing into the building. The building owner, Worawit Leungkao,43, said he was not inside at the time of the accident. Initial investigation showed the truck had also damaged two buildings on either side of the one it ploughed into. The part missing was "After hospitalization, the driver was returned to the scene where he was given a bottle of water, a sturdy stick to assist his now-damaged leg, and a head start by the local police."
