Tell me how that is different, oh wait lets see they will have to adhere to the new and improved contract Tracing system which will be put in place. I see that they must also adhere to social distancing rules, avoid crowded places and wear face covering. So they will just watch where they go, have them check in, and then test anyone they have contact with after the fact. Sounds bulletproof to me. It is a start, but I believe it will be a shiite show. 11 1 3

The consensus is that she acquired the Virus in Quarantine prior to being let out. The ASQ Hotel has been removed from the list of the hotels allowed due to lax procedures apparently. However, this was just released in another OP: Dr Sopon Iamsirithaworn, director of the Disease Control Department’s Bureau of General Communicable Diseases, said on Thursday the French patient’s test did not match that of two other foreign guests at the same hotel who tested positive. He said tests showed the woman had contracted the infection 17 days earlier, which rules out the Samut Prakan hotel. Popular Post Flying Saucage
Thailands low Covid numbers are based on luck, lies and low numbers of testing. The lucky part is related to its climate, the social behaviour and a possible genetic predisposition of the people. This was discussed numerous times in the forum already, citing scientific studies. But these reasons will ensure that Thailand stays safe not only with reduced quarantine, but even without quarantine and open borders. Even if there was no quarantine and open borders, only very few tourists would come, with far less than 1% being infected, due to negative testing before entering the country. This might in the worst case lead to a few hundred asymptomatic or mild cases in the country, similar to what was the case in European countries during summer time. Possibly the number of deaths would stay close to zero, due to the genetic predisposition preventing severe cases (-> article in Nature), rather than the around 5 to 10 daily deaths Italy or Germany had during summer. The few tourists who would come would stay mainly outdoors at the beaches, restaurants and while sightseeing, posing very little danger even in the unlikely case of an infection. So overall, Thailand would stay very safe even with zero quarantine and open borders. Coming back to my first sentence, the points of "lies, and low numbers of testing": Very likely the numbers of a few hundred asymptomatic or mild cases and a handful of deaths (if at all), are the case in Thailand already today, anyway. Reporting elsewhere she caught it 17 days ago before arriving. Didnt know you could pinpoint a day of infection! 8 5

Popular Post Oldie
"Contact tracing system will be put in place and they must adhere to social distancing rules, avoid crowded places and wear face covering." Very funny. They might sit in bars or discos every night where nobody cares about any regulations. They also will be on the beach without masks. They will be in restaurants without masks. And perhaps not use them at all when they are not at locations like malls where they are forced to use them. And there might be tourists that will not care about any protection. You can see such behavior in Europe where people even protest against protection measures. 5 2

Likely two reasons: As per numerous countries around the world, they need extra powers to escalate measures if/when required as normal laws tend not to cover the measures required in a pandemic. They can (mis)use the powers under the state of emergency to crack down on "dissent"
