Popular Post webfact
"Pattaya Model": Mayor targets Chinese and Russian visitors - quarantine hotels named Picture: Bangkok Biz News Pattaya's mayor Sontaya Khunpluem came out with a relatively new buzzword to describe his attempts to woo visitors from China and Russia to come to the resort as part of alternative local state quarantine, ALSQ. Describing his efforts as the "Pattaya Model" he told Bangkok Biz News that it was right to target the Chinese and Russian market especially in areas in those countries where the virus is under control. Last year Pattaya had 3 million visitors from China and 1.1 million from Russia, the most from abroad. Tour companies were now actively promoting visits to Thailand in places like Moscow and St Petersburg in Russia as well as Guangzhou, Shanghai and Shenzhen in China. So far thirteen hotels have applied to be part of the "Pattaya Model" offering ALSQ and three have been approved. These are the Hotel J Residence and Best Bella Pattaya in North Pattaya and Avani Pattaya Resort off the main beach further towards South Pattaya. The media report also contained reference to the term "Neo-Pattaya" - another buzzword of the mayor about plans for 80 million baht in infrastructure development in his city including transport, drainage, sewerage and spending on several "landmarks" to transform places like Walking Street. There are also plans in the offing for a cruise terminal at Bali Hai alongside the current port. Previously in Thailand something called the "Phuket Model" was all the rage, notes Thaivisa. Though whether "Pattaya Model" can get off the ground will depend largely on the authorities' willingness to promote quarantine away from Bangkok. Some reports in the media from the TAT say that local opposition to allowing ALSQ is limiting the offering of such facilities at present to the Thai capital, at least in "Phase One". Popular Post spidermike007
What can one say? Desperation is setting in. Heads are going to roll. Just returned from Samui. Utter devastation. 90% of the businesses on the beach road were closed, and hundreds of hotels are closed and for sale, at half price. Trillions of baht are going to be lost here. Annually. Tourism will NEVER recover. Not in our lifetimes. Too much timidity. Too much cowardice. Too little juice and creativity. Such small minds. If they cannot figure out a way to implement this simple program, then totally free quarantine for incoming tourists. All expenses, including meals, picked up by the army, using their multi trillion baht slush fund. Give up the stupid submarine program. That is over 30 billion baht right there. You do not need them. Simple answer. Nonsensical stupidity. Lack of science. Fear mongering. Let us make your stay as uncomfortable as possible. And by the way, you cannot consume alcohol either, during your quarantine. Who comes up with this stuff, and why does the nation tolerate the nonsense, the utter incompetence, the malfeasance? How much longer will they tolerate the extremely regressive army? 15
Popular Post Cake Monster
Pattaya will be like the London of the Black Death era, where guys wander the streets shouting " Bring out you Dead ", and they were promptly thrown onto a cart and wheeled away for burial in a Lime Pit. Both Russia and China do not have Covid under control, so the Mayor will bring Death and Pestulance to the City with this cranky idea. 6
Greenhill
Where does Mr Sonthaya get the idea that either Russia or China have Covid under control! O'm sure pne or several of his minions can do some very simple research to find the truth! But again, talk is so cheap & he's got himeself SOME publicity ! They don't care here if it's bad or good!????????

Operator2002
Yes, there is some surge of covid19 infections & deaths in Moscow and Saint Petersburg now - but you could demand all the outgoing tourists have to present a negative test results within 72 hours of the flight from Russia abroad - like it is done with Maldives and UAE for Russian tourists now (UAE also demand second test to be done on arrival to Dubai). By the way all tourists returning to Russia have to make another test for covid19 within 3 days upon return to Russia. Turkey received over a million of Russian tourists since 1 August 2020 taking temperature on arrival and testing those with any symptoms of covid19. Thousands of Russian tourists travelled to Maldives (now top source of tourists for Maldives), UAE and no problem. It will be difficult for Thai people related to the jobs in tourism to survive with closed borders for such a long time.

Andycoops
Another statement that doesn't use joined up writing. Yesterday it was reported only Bangkok was to be used for quarantine of tourists as it would be easier,so they claim, to address any outbreak. Many countries here in Asia have blocked tourists completely. Thailand allows them at least with quarantine. Not true? Look below for Vietnam for instance. So if the people don't like the Thai regulations they should go there ???? Not sure about the Russians, but the Chinese are going to exploit this situation, to no end. There is already talk about the Kra Canal project. We know what that means. It will likely be funded by China, and the moment it is completed, China will take over complete control of the canal, in a nanosecond. The Japanese are starting to move some of their manufacturing elsewhere, and they appear to be getting "Prayuth goombah fatigue". Investments in Thailand are way down. 2

Leaver
5 minutes ago, Oldie said: Doing big business. That is different from opening a small bar and hope for miracles. Sure, but in regards to this part of your post, "we western Farangs had many years time to do business here. And mostly it ended in creating beer bars" what "big business" can be done in a small beer bar? What do you think the Chinese, Russians, and Thai mafia can do with all these small buildings all over Pattaya? There's too many of them to be retail, and many are too small to be a restaurant. The nature of the buildings themselves means they can only really sell alcohol and / or sex. In humour, many say to bulldoze whole soi's and start again. I don't see this as possible, unless a whole soi is owned by an individual or company, so, I can't see how the land, or the current buildings, can be repurposed to anything else than selling alcohol and / or sex.
