Officials from Kui Buri National Park and a team of special-unit officers showed up at the man’s house after he posted photographs of his antics on Facebook. The suspect, who goes by the name Chaowalit, confessed that he has been doing this for four months now and often posted photographs on a Facebook page run by wildlife hunters. He was charged with catching or harming protected wildlife and violating Articles 12 and 89 of the Wild Animal Reservation and Protection Act. The offender was taken to Ban Yang Police Station for legal action and could face up to 10 years in prison and/or a fine of up to Bt1 million. Looks like tying a monitor lizard to a motorbike, is more serious an offence than killing someone while driving DUI.... regards worgeordie Edited October 30, 2020 by worgeordie

Patong2021
Bad man. I hold his neighbors and family responsible too. They saw him do this over 4 months and did not report him. Yes, I know not much will happen, but if they can get this bad man to stop, it will be better than nothing.

Premchai got a 2 year 4 month prison sentence and a multi-million baht fine for the panther episode. The Chinese tourist got a six-month suspended sentence, deportation and a B15,000 fine. How much was the Thai with the water monitor pillion-rider fined/jailed for?

You mean Premchai is still in jail I very much doubt it knowing the system here ! but as a noone and capturing monitors he could face up to 10 years in prison and/or a fine of up to Bt1 million and don't get caught collecting mushrooms in a National Park you end up in the big house also Oh by the way selling dead monitors in the market must be quite ok let's say they were roadkill and same goes for bush meat dam vehicles ! Premchais's on bail appealing his sentence to the Supreme Court. When he appealed at the Appeal Court his sentence was increased. "Up to B1m fine/10 years imprisonment is the maximum, not a mandatory punishment, the water monitor abuser could get just a B100 fine. No one has been imprisoned for collecting mushrooms, members of illegal logging gangs can go to jail, though.

I think you'll find that they have: Quote A middle-aged couple infamously sentenced to 15 years in prison for plucking a few mushrooms for their dinner table from a protected forest was released recently. Udom Sirisorn, now 53, and his wife Daeng Sirisorn, 50, were released 17 months after they collapsed in tears during sentencing, images of which stirred a public outcry over an unjust system at the time. Did you read any of the coverage of the case at the time? As far as what the reporting showed, I think it's quite clear they were not part of an illegal logging gang. There were just the two of them, a grandfather and grandmother and they were simply unlucky enough to get caught up in an operation where the police were targeting illegal loggers. The police then charged them with illegal logging in what was clearly an attempt to save face when all they could prove they took were some mushrooms and a small amount of firewood. They were no more part of an illegal logging gang than the pensioners arrested for playing bridge in Pattaya were part of an organized illegal gambling ring. Here's a picture of them - are you seriously asking us to believe this elderly couple were actually an illegal logging gang (all two of them)? Good grief he should have just gone into a wildlife sanctuary and shot and ate multiple protected species as I am sure the authorities would treat him as fairly as say....an italian-thai business owner.....
