Popular Post solafr
hello, Many times I was under the rain with girls, and then the next day they were sick, at least with a sore throat. Is there any reason to be sick after being wet by the rain ? Even when raining it's never cold here, so why being sick ? Is it a virus or bacteria / germ ? And why without knowing the cause they always take antibiotics ? Thank you, I really want to know.
Popular Post getithere328
Maybe you should remove 'under the rain' from that statement. Sorry, couldn't resist. 2
Popular Post TC17
Great question! My wife is very tough, not frail, and yet the same thing happens. A stuffy nose for a day or two. I wonder if it is real or psychological. But she seems to have real symptoms of a sinus infection.

Tell her to take a warm shower as soon as she gets in and to stay in there until she is comfortable and relaxed again. Usually wards it off.

Popular Post FritsSikkink
If you live here for a while, you have the same. The rain together with the wind will feel cold, then getting into a air con area, will get you a cold. 9 3

Popular Post ezzra
Thai people and women in particular exhibit uncommon and illogical behavior and have quirky traits about them, been here for 35 years and still i get puzzled to their way of life, thinking and doing things, having said that, i'm still here and loving it... 7

Even without heating the water it is already hot. In my home country a cold shower in winter will be only a couple of degrees away from freezing. I liked the way they heat the water in the shower in Thailand, with a small electrical device heating the water only when it is needed. Thought about trying it in my home country, till I realized that it will not work in colder climates because it makes the water only a couple of degrees more hot. 1

It's an old wive's tale. 11 1 3

You can get electric showers all over the world with power up to 8 or 9 kWatts. That will heat the water, and your electricity bill as well. 3

Popular Post bunnydrops
In my area the women seem to have a fear of rain. Even in the lightest drizzle they run inside or grab an umbrella.

ChipButty
My wife was the same when she first came to live in Phuket 12 years ago all I could think of was in BKK she was constantly in the A/C never getting fresh air, eventually it stopped, maybe because where we live we are surrounded by the Ocean in the morning when I get up I open all the doors and windows let the air blow through the house

Popular Post tonray
In reality it may due to their avoidance of sun/UV light. With all the coverup powder and schemes to avoid "becoming dark skinned" they may have Vitamin D deficiency that makes them more susceptible to cold virus infections. 4

Wongkitlo
Thais think there is bacteria in the rain but it is just that they can transfer quicker in a wet environment. 1

Adiudon
I think it is more of a sinus irritation problem or natural body reaction than a virus or bacteria. If you come from a normally humid atmospheric area like Europe and stay in an AC hotel room with the cold dry air constantly blowing, your sinuses/ throat will become irritated for a few days. I think Thai nasal sinuses react to the colder damp conditions during the rains, fooling them into thinking they have caught something.
