Coronavirus: Travel rules after England goes into second lockdown on Thursday

Almost all outbound international travel is banned when new nationwide restrictions come in on 5 November.

By Lara Keay, news reporter

 From that report:

Quote

"People cannot travel internationally or within the UK, unless for work, education or other legally permitted exemptions", the government says.

Surely returning to Thailand because you live or work there is a legally permitted exemption? It seems so. From the government guidance New National Restrictions from 5 November: 11. Travel

Quote

If you do need to travel overseas from England before 2 December (and are legally permitted to do so, for example, because it is for work), even if you are returning to a place you’ve visited before, you should look at the rules in place at your destination, the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) travel advice.

(7by7 emphasis)

Assuming you get a certificate of entry from the Thai embassy. I personally know two Thais who were here in the UK visiting family when all this started who have still not received such; despite many attempts to contact the embassy to progress their applications.

Absolute economic terrorism.

I picked up 2 things from his speech.

1. They stated about 10 people were going into hospital per 100,000 in the 20-60 bracket. New York had published figures somewhere like 90% of hospitalizations were due to obesity or previous conditions. So basically 2 healthy  20 to 60 years old being admitted per 100,000 people !! Madness. The bulk of all hospitalizations and deaths were 74-100.

Basically if the old , infirm, obese stayed home, the rest could get on with life with precautions. The old and fat are filling the hospitals, not the young and fit. 75,000 people are dying from missed cancer screenings for the sake of average 82 years old deaths from covid.

This economic terrorism is destroying the lives of the young. It probably won't effect me , I own my home, my annuities are guaranteed and state UK pension is looming soon, but the young will be paying for this debacle for the next 20 years at the expense of their lives and housing.

2. It was stated that at the start of December the likelihood was that deaths would be the same as the peak of the Spring in the UK. If anyone - ANYONE - thinks that they will open for x-mas with at the peak of deaths they are deluded. UK will NOT be open by X-mas, be lucky by February.

How do you propose in shielding some 25 odd million people ?

So why did Johnson announce the lockdown won't come into effect until Thursday? The measures can pass Parliament on Monday and take effect from Tuesday.

Instead it gives people a chance for a last hurrah before privations set in

More chance for Covid to spread

My God this UK government is criminaly stupid..

I imagine it's a mighty sight easier than shield the 67,000,000 population

Shielding the entire population is easy. You just tell them to stay at home.

Splitting the population up into groups is what you suggest. Answer the question - how do you propose on doing this?

Few scenarios - my friend, over 65, lives with her son and daughter in law. 2 grandchildren. Do we just throw her on a island?

Second scenario - care homes. Who goes and looks after the elderly?

Third scenario - are old people not to go out and buy food, or have any form of social life?

I am just curious as to how you propose to isolate 30% of the population.

Of course you won't answer - because you just cannot do that.

businesses need to inform customers of changes ,for instance if one has an interview about universal credit or visit a dentist or have a flight  booked

they need a buffer zone to inform customers ,some readers have no sense and are criminally stupid

Since losing our jobs last February, my wife and I have been on UC. All interviews for same have been, and still are, conducted over the phone. I have another routine interview with my work search coach this afternoon, arranged last week before the announcement. My wife has one on Wednesday, also arranged last week before the announcement. As with all previous ones they will be conducted over the phone.

I did have an appointment with my dentist on Friday coming, postponed from August, and was today phoned to say it was cancelled and as it was only for a routine check up I should call back in January to make a new one.

For booked flights, I did post the government guidance on that in response to one of your earlier posts; here it is again.

As Starmer has said that Labour will not oppose this measure, there is no reason why Boris could not put it through Parliament today as a statutory instrument and have it take effect tomorrow.

In fact, it should have been done two weeks ago to take advantage of the fact that the schools were all closed; but as usual Boris couldn't act decisively.

The statutory instrument was made available yesterday so that should remove all speculation, and just leave it down to interpretation.

One scenario - if you live in the UK by yourself,  you are able to establish a linked household and form a support bubble. You are allowed to leave home and travel to that linked household and stay overnight. You are encouraged to make that linked household as local as possible, but it is not mandatory. So you could be in Brighton say, and the linked household in Manchester. The interesting scenario is, nowhere does it say that the linked household has to be in the UK from what I can see. So it appears that you can make a Thai household you linked household, and are therefore entitled to travel to it,  and stay there, even if that involves international airline travel to get there. I've tried googling this scenario but cannot find anyone who has done it.

peace be with you all.

The Chinese economy will, apparently, be fine.

One could speculate, but might be construed as conspiracy theory.

Having, IMO, destroyed the economy, how does the government get enough tax to afford to pay the carers for the elderly?

Do we just throw her on a island?

No, she's not old enough to be isolated, but if she was, she'd go into an isolation facility.

Third scenario - are old people not to go out and buy food, or have any form of social life?

Food would be delivered to the isolation facility, where they can socialise with all the other isolated people.

Just got to add this, then I really must take the dawg out for a walk...

Why aren't the deaths being listed by age?

Could it be that it looks more dramatic, as if it affects everyone proportionately....?

https://metro.co.uk/2020/11/04/another-492-people-die-with-coronavirus-as-uk-cases-soar-by-more-than-25000-13537508/

Sad really, looks to me as if Boris's policies are going to royally muck (f) up the UK.

If they published the ages it might lead to a revolt over lockdown. Young people might object to being locked down to save all those old people they don't care about much. Where I live, ageism is alive and well, IMO.

Boris is just the mouthpiece, IMO.

This is rather interesting:

https://www.bbc.com/news/health-54785032

"The government presents detailed statistics on Covid. They show more than 9,000 patients are currently in hospitals in England.

But what we are not being told is exactly just how full hospitals are.

The Covid patients take up fewer than one in 10 beds."

Does this mean that all the bleating about Hospitals about to be " overwhelmed" is false....?

No need to go to that length.

International travel is still allowed. Provided it is for a 'legally permitted' reason and you're not displaying Covid 19 symptoms.
