rooster59
WHO hails Thailand’s success in fighting Covid-19 [File Image] Geneva — World Health Organisation Director General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has singled out Thailand as “an excellent example” in fighting the coronavirus which has been ravaging the world since early this year. He said Thailand’s success was the result of the country’s commitment to investing in its public health infrastructure, pointing out its network of more than 1 million village health volunteers who play a critical role in the response to the pandemic. In his closing remarks at the World Health Assembly on November 13 in Geneva, the WHO chief said Thailand’s low rate of Covid-19 infections and deaths “speak for themselves”. Popular Post daveAustin
Really not worth commenting on. Thailand has done well on keeping tests to a minimum perhaps and not publishing figures. Of what else? Closing borders and wearing hasmat suits at airports? What else? UK has 500k-million volunteers helping the NHS etc, and many other countries likely do the same. This who guy - one minute masks are good, then bad - is all over the place and cannot be trusted.

ezzra
Indeed, many people are scratching their head as to how and why Thailand has managed to escape the brunt of this pandemic and come out with only small number of dead and infected people, because of Thailand robust health system? Nah, i don't buy it, this is indeed an anomaly as to why the virus has passed over this country so quickly and with such little damage...

Must be due to the hot chili and other spicy dishes the Thais eat. After all chili is high in vitamin C .Perhaps a Chili vaccine is the answer

yellowboat
The junta is always looking for pats on the head. Given how badly the WHO handled the situation, the EU is thinking of starting its on health organization. Taiwan should start its own health organization, as it has a good healthcare system and it beat the pandemic far better than any other. It will be interesting to see how the US deals with the WHO next year.
Popular Post jojothai
Utter nonsense that it is anything to do with good public health infrastructure. Popular Post mrboatbkk
Exactly the success in controlling the spread of COVID-19 is due to strong public health infrastructure, devotion and hardwork of all the medical personnel also great job by more than 1 million public health volunteers who play such a significant role in controlling the spread down to the village level and the most important part is the cooperation of all Thai people who strictly comply with social distancing rule, regular hand wash and etc.

Their covid numbers are unbelievable but I believe them more than most other countries. mrboatbkk
No need to scratch the head why Thailand able to put COVID-19 undercontrol its because of strong public health foundation and hardwork of medical staffs plus million+ public health volunteers. 1
Popular Post Tropicalevo
The WHO should be looking seriously at China and why did they start the virus in the first place. The WHO investigation is a farce and China have said that they will deccide what results are to published from the said 'investigation'. Absolute nonsense. 2

pookondee
There must be some truth to it. There doesn't seem to be any shortage of Bangkokians hitting the soi's lately. And theres little thought of social distancing either. Not many people are falling over dead or filling hospitals to the rafters with Covid either. Anyway, if Covid was anywhere near a serious risk in Thailand, word would quickly get around, and Thais (being the way they are) would certainly not be out gathering in big numbers for certain gatherings.

Alidiver
UK numbers are high because they have completed 38,000,000 tests on people. Thailand have done only 978,000 tests. However, I do believe that Thai figures are low, but more by luck; an abundance of vitamin D and maybe immunity from years of Bird Flu

sqwakvfr
But at what cost? Close the country for 2 months. No one gets in or gets out. The virus has had minimal impact on the country(so we are told?). Thai Economy(according to latest numbers) will contract by 6%. If this is the formula to fight Covid 19 then “is the cure worse than the disease”?
sqwakvfr
In related news pharmaceutical giant Moderna just reported their Covid 19 Vaccine has an effective rate of 94.5% in Phase 3 trials(CNBC and the Financial Times both reported this). Pfizer reported last week their vaccine was 90% effective. “Light at the end of the tunnel??? Of course the Russians also reported their vaccine is 92% effective(I absolutely believe this???). Any day now I’m expecting the Chinese to report their vaccine is 1000% effective. Edited November 16, 2020 by sqwakvfr Grammar
