It's back! Lousy air quality...ugh

This morning I thought I was coming down with a cold or flu, or even the dreaded C19, I felt lousy, very tired with a sore throat and aching muscles. I had a kip at lunchtime and felt a bit better for the rest, so I went for a quiet stroll down Jomtien way. I only live about 1,500 metres from Pattaya Park but could see the tower was looking murky and hazy. I know what that means, poor air quality, and it was confirmed when I got to the beach; Bang Saray and the hills down there had disappeared into the murk. The AQI was close close on 140 when I checked, which is enough to make me feel aware of it. I'm finding as the years go by that I'm becoming more and more sensitive to the AQI, I've no idea why. This is the earliest I've seen the lousy air quality start in Pattaya, anyway, are we really in for 3 or more months of breathing this rubbish?

I've noticed more people burning things, a day of mild hay-fever a week or so ago, apart from that it's fine so far

Yep as soon as the "cool" weather appears  "everything" is burned    maybe its tradition or they are trying to keep warm or crops have been harvested and they burn the stubble   when they could  turn it back into the soil and save money on buying fertiliser next year and save everyone dying from respiratory problems !!

I heard fertilizer companies tell them to burn so can seek Fertilizer

The real burning season has not yet begun.

Rice harvest not finished and sugar cane not even started (at least up here).

Be prepared for more.

The NASA fire-map shows comparably small activity.

Gonna be an ugly winter.  Smog season starts earlier and earlier every year.

Winds have turned around and blowing from the North means all the crappy

Chinese air is headed our way.  It used to take until late December to reach us.

Now, its here already.

AQI is 165 at midnight in Pattaya!!!  Sheesh.

Yes, I had a look around 11:00 last night and it was much worse than it had been during the day, I guess because the government app advises them to burn all their agricultural waste at night?

The air outside is horrific. And I think it's time to stop blaming farmers for burning fields. The red spot is only over Bangkok and the wind taking the pollution down south, according to Windy app.

This time of year the air mass movement is more north to south or northeast to  southwest. Generally at other times it's southwest to north east, so at this time of year it brings a lot of 'stuff' from inland to the gulf area.

Now and then at this time we get the occassional 'whiff' of Maptaphut coming in.

The air quality today is BAD BAD BAD the worst I have seen since I cant even remember when.......My eyes are stinging a bit...... 

 

I think this is whats its like in China's big cities much of the time.....
