webfact
Pattaya: Deputy mayor tells Thai media Pattaya is "dangerous" right now due to air pollution Picture: 77kaoded Pattaya's deputy mayor has admitted that the resort is dangerous to health right now. The amount of PM 2.5 in the air is at harmful levels, said Manot Nongyai in an interview with 77kaosod. During the long holiday weekend the situation was worse on Friday with readings over 100 but it was better on Monday just over 50. He blamed smoke coming in from nearby areas and car exhausts. In areas where there were more cars the situation was worse. It was the dry season, he said. He urged people in the Pattaya area not to make fires of trash and not to contribute to the problem by putting more dust in the air by tidying up. 77kaosod said the problem was plain to see in views from the top of Phra Tamnak Hill. They said that on Monday much of the resort was blanketed in this smoky haze while the weather was hot again. They advised mask wearing as prolonged exposure to the smaze could cause eye and nose irritation and other complaints. Not sure how the government thinks its going to attract "Premium Tourists" if they have to strap on a respirator to simply survive?

Guderian
In a few weeks time, when we have the next long weekend, it'll be mist and fog causing the problem again. The official AQI meter for southern Pattaya is way out on the Dark Side, maybe 10 km inland from the sea, and the other side of the hill at Khao Talo. It's not very likely its AQI measurements were affected by sea fog as the previous imbecilic article suggested.
